Fallen Soldier Returns Home - Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300 at Los Angeles (LAX)

While editing my recent flight video out of the sky club at LAX, something strange happened at the gate where multiple police cars were heading towards the gate. At first I thought an aircraft was being diverted due to unruly passengers but once I saw formal military wear, I immediately realized that it had to be a fallen soldier returning home.
The flight DL520 from New York (JFK) - Los Angeles (LAX) reunited the fallen one with his family and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this loss and the hero received a formal welcome home ceremony from law enforcement and first responders
Make no mistake, we are all here on this planet for a purpose and this young individual proudly served and protected our country and for that I will always hold respect and gratitude!
Rest easy young soldier, thank you for your service and for everyone out there going through stuff, you got this!

I was on a flight from MN and the guy sitting next to me was in uniform. When we landed, he got off first and we all waited on the plane as he went out and met the body of his fallen friend. It was the same ceremony you captured. Sadly, some people on the plane were complaining out loud that they had to wait on the plane for the ceremony. If they only stopped to realize they’d probably be on a train to a prison camp rather than a comfy jet plane if soldiers didn’t fall for their freedom. Sorry to put a negative vibe out there, but people can be completely ignorant more often than not.

I was on a flight from Seattle to Dallas with a fallen soldier. It was incredibly sad but beautiful. Luckily everyone on the flight was respectful and understanding. There were many tears. Anyone that would seriously complain at that moment should lose their US citizenship. Everything we have is because these men and women fight for our freedoms every single day. Never take that for granted.

As a veteran, I was honored to attend and bear witness to one of these ceremonies. Even after passengers were allowed to disembark from the plane, many remained in their seats respectfully watching thru the windows. What they didn't know, was that this family had waited over 60 years for this moment. You see, my uncle died in a POW camp during the Korean War and was buried in a mass grave. In a joint agreement in the 90's several crates of remains were delivered to Hawaii for possible identification thru DNA analysis. It was my mother and sister who flew to Hawaii to escort my uncle's remains home. I will be forever grateful to the DPAA for their dedication to identifying and returning fallen servicemen and women to their families, and to Delta for their gracious handling of these matters.

I agree. Dad was stationed at Hickham AFB in Hawaii during Vietnam. I still remember the rows and rows of flag-draped coffins being rolled out of the back of a transport plane. We all knew when we signed up that going into a war zone was a possibility, as well as not going home alive. It saddens and angers me that there seems to be less patriotism felt here every year.

As the proud daughter of a Korean War vet in the Army and dad who served in the National Guard until manditory retirement at age 60, i'm 63 now and they held daddies papers for three months during Desert Storm in 1990 (my dad was a 30 model, as he put it). I am in awe and respect of anyone or means to help and honor our military of every branch and to get them home. I loved it when mom would drive us to meet convoy just coming back from 2 week camp at camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, MS Daddy had green fatigues, now they are tan, but did witness convoy coming home several years ago after getting a Krystal burger and of course I stopped , saluted and waved and welcomed troop home but not without a tear.My daddy never left the house without a flag pin on him or a ball cap or whatever. Instead of boutonniere, pall bearers wore one of daddy's many, many, many pins he had and I still have a few after 3-1.2 years. Don't know why I shared this story because my dad came home safe before I was born. Was a Master Sergeant in Guard, but took a demotion not to go back to Korea. Daddy passed of natural causes at age 90. He loved his country, his flag. Had stickers on our old front door, "Land of the Free BECAUSE of the Brave", Just want this family to know their loved one didn't pass in vain and served his country well. And thank you to ALL military out there for serving!!!!! God, please, Bless America!!!

This is so sad, my heartfelt thanks to this soldier, my thoughts are with his family. May God Bless him and guide his family in healing. The airport should have shown more respect, this soldier paid the ultimate price for our freedom...respect to the fallen is paramount.

why does everybody say that he died for your freedom? Are you all that brainwashed? He died to fight in countries that don't even respect the US. He would have died for your freedom if he fought at your borders. When do you people wake up.

It's a shame that this kind of respect is only given to the fallen, while our disabled vets are treated like yesterdays trash.
