@Lisa Surlie I'm not sure if you're wondering why he didn't produce it, or if you just are trying to say it's not a very good film. Some of Benedict's work I love, and some of it I don't like as much. For me, that has more to do with script and production value than his ability.

@Lisa Surlie ok I see what you mean. I agree it's too bad about the distribution. Many actors do not choose to get into production and they do not fight with the producers over distribution. Depends on how the deal was written. If Benedict got a flat fee for the movie - it doesn't matter to him. But usually the star gets a fee, plus a percentage of theater profits. Studios producing the movie want to do whatever is most beneficial and convenient for them. Scarlett Johansson had a percentage deal... Disney said her movie would be in theaters only for an extended period of time, and they did not keep that deal. Disney thought they could get away with it - but she sued them and they agreed to compensate her. Just shows you what studios will do if they think they can get away with it.

@Lisa Surlie producing usually means putting the money up to finance the movie, and it includes the day-to-day things that have to be done - such as building a set, getting permits, hiring stunt people, and so forth. In some cases, the same person will create and write and produce the movie, maybe even star in it as well. But usually, the producer buys a script from a writer. Of course the writer gets credit for the screenplay.
