No, the cars in this timeline don't use computer tech. They are more like the cars of old (the 1950s)

@@FlamingoKicker I hate to break it to you, but EMPs not only destroy microchips, they destroy all manner of electronics. Every combustion car in the 1950s had electronic timing. They all have a distributor. Also, you have no source for your claim about car tech. The games never go in to a level of detail, that you can back that up. If you are one of those people who claim there are no microchips in Fallout, then I would just direct you to your Pip-Boy, which can't exist without them. Most of the lore of this game, that you love, you read on a computer terminal, which had microchips in it. They were new technology, but they did exist.

@@Tijuanabill not a problem. I never claimed to be an expert. I had just heard that older cars weren't affected by EMPs. In any event, even if their cars did turn over where would you drive when the city is burning from so many nuclear blasts? Given it is L.A. we all know about the infamous L.A. traffic so you would just die sitting in grid lock.

@@FlamingoKicker Ha! No doubt about that. They would all be stuck in traffic. Yeah, it's a common thing Fallout fans think, that there are no transistors. They were invented very late in the Fallout timeline, but they are present in all of the games. Its something that is a bit nuanced, so it's easy to not get exactly right.

Also to answer about ghouls, there are lots of friendly ghouls in the games but because they have the potential to go feral they’re usually not super tolerated at the best of times and outright killed/persecuted at worst. There’s also no true explanation yet given as to why some people turn into ghouls instead of just dying to radiation, and why some ghouls turn feral and others don’t. Certain things seem to help stave it off but it’s a constant fear for all ghouls. There are strong hints that FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus, something that was developed to create supersoldiers pre-war but was flawed and was disseminated into the atmosphere) may play a part but again nothing definitive. Ghouls have regenerative health (especially in irradiated areas as radiation heals them) but the cost is they’re basically intelligent zombies, they’re not very pretty to look at, and they could potentially lose their minds at any time. They don’t really need food (I can’t remember if they need water, I think maybe but a lot less?). Many of them have been alive for hundreds of years, many who haven’t turned feral have memories of pre-war life which makes conversations with them pretty cool. Also imagine how badass you have to be to survive an apocalypse for over 200 years? Most are pretty good survivors as a result. The friendly ghoul you’re thinking of Caz is probably Hancock in FO4 who can become a companion. There’s lots of others though (you can even make one. In FO3 the town of Megaton is built around an unexploded nuke which you can set to blow as part of a quest. If you do so one of the endlessly cheery characters you can interact with in the town will show up later in the game as a ghoul, retaining her cheery disposition regardless). It’s a sign of how shitty the setting can be that ghouls barely scratch the surface of the horror lol.
