First Paddle & Portage with the New Nova Craft Bob Special - Family Adventure in the Great Outdoors + Fishing: A couple weeks ago, Tori and I headed out to explore some water around our house. Tori was eager to try out her new Nova Craft Bob Special ultralight canoe. Family camping was off the table because of the camping bans in Ontario but a little family outdoor adventure was definitely in store including fishing. Snacks, drinks and bug spray in tow, we portaged to a put-in right from our front door. We planned on fishing and hoped to catch Northern Pike. All that was biting was Bass however which were out of season. I landed a big one with no net, grabbing it by the lip and lifting it out of the water. After basically blowing to the end of the lake, we had to turn around and paddle all the way back into a strong headwind. It challenged our skills and was a good bit of exercise but our son Wesley was unfazed and basically snoozed the whole way.

Definitely. It’s actually a bay which means the water levels fluctuate a lot and only water resistant cedar will grow along much of the shoreline. This makes it a prime deer wintering area and they trim those Cedars.

I have been using five gallon buckets with lids for ballast when I paddle alone in my tandem canoes. Empty bucks don't weigh anything and are easy to carry, full buckets keep the front end in place and the canoe tracks a lot better. Lids ensure I don't take a bath in my canoe.

You are hands down my favourite adventurer and KZfaqr lately, and I have high hopes for some expeditions this spring/summer/fall!. If you are ever in need of a week long or more trip it’s whitewater, swifts and open river, the Southwest Miramichi, Cains River, Gasspereau, and Northwest miramichi river routes are a lot of fun. The southwest can be a 150 km + run, as can the northwest. In the area, you can fly fish Brook/speckled trout in the Cains, northwest, and Bartibogue rivers on a run, and it’s a lot of fun! There’s also the Nepisiguit River run which is a multi day run that starts at the Mount Carleton provincial park (highest point in NB and a beautiful hike) that takes you to the bay of chaleur (over 75km) with great white water and beautiful scenery such as papineau falls! New Brunswick may not have the extreme wilderness of Northern Ontario, but we have some historical routes that native Americans, fur traders, and fishermen relied on for their livelihood!
@norco4life518
@norco4life518 2 жыл бұрын
And it would do a lot for someone like you to take these routes, whether for a fishing trip/exploration trip/or a trip for one of you many articles, to bring popularity into our beautiful Miramichi river system. Plus, during the right right time In spring you could have your fill and more of Striped Bass or speckled/Brookies!!

Bass are spawning it looks like and hitting everything
@JimBairdAdventurer
@JimBairdAdventurer 3 жыл бұрын
Ya, here their spawning season is very short because of the fluctuation of water temps with the seasons. So, fishing them on their nests is really bad while where the spawning season is much longer in warmer climates, where not all bass spawn at the same time, it’s not so damaging to the population

I mention in this video that I’m working on editing the Yukon videos currently. If you think about it, how would I be able to edit all those videos in the Yukon while uploading them from an off-grid location you know? I left for the Yukon in late feb and was home six weeks earlier. My first vid from the adventure came out after I’d been back for two weeks. Sorry about the confusion!
