I'll admit that my ocean boating experiences have been limited to less than a handful, but I never dreamed there was anywhere that alcohol was not permitted on a personal pleasure boat in the US.

The father should have trimmed the motor so that the bow was higher than the stern. These boats can go to the ocean when they have someone at the helm who knows what they are doing, but an inexperienced captain should stay on a lake.

Boat hulls are not designed to carry weight in the bow. Boat manufacturers put seats up there because people don’t understand how unstable it makes the boat. Even as overloaded this boat was, had the passengers been in the main part of the passenger compartment, everything would have been just fine.

60 years of boating experience here. One thing that I have found out is the best way to sink a boat is to fill it up with water. (Unless it's a Boston whaler) And the best way to put your family in dangerous to Sink your boat. Many years ago my friend told me that all boats need a bucket. Now you see why.

The difference with me is everybody on that boat we had a lifejacket. And if it started sinking to valuable lesson to the kids number one do not panic stay calm use your head, getting upset, screaming, and crying. Will do nothing. Stay calm using your head could save your life, I think it’s a great lesson for all those kids in that boat depending on how the parents react to the situation😮

It's a 19 foot Sea Ray with a 150 hp outboard, trim tabs weren't even offered as an option on this boat. If they were, they would have done nothing in this situation. The captain needs to learn how to distribute weight and trim his outboard.

Actually he should have gotten into the throttle AFTER having everyone move toward the stern. The bilge pumps are usually in the rear of the boat and by getting into the throttle the water would have shifted to the stern. The idiot screaming “put it in reverse” was giving absolutely the wrong instructions.

@@mikeschuler2946on a 20ft or less mono "single" hull boat you go by the manufacturer weight capacity plate including ppl, gear & motor! now if the plate is missing which would be illegal in most states you can use the coast guards recomended formula multiply the length × width then divide by 15 would give the number of occupants based on 150lbs ea

Watched 7 people drown in Lake Erie a number of years ago in a bowrider during a storm between Kelly and Mouse islands. It was just too rough for anyone to help. We were taking 6-7 ft waves over the bow and bailing like crazy. They all washed up on the beach later that night. Never ever catch me in a bowrider.
