You can cluster triangulated matches on Genetic Affairs. I do it all the time.

Hi Andy, I have a few clusters in my DNA matches, on both my parents' sides, who match each other but do not match any of my identified matches. Some of these clusters have over 20 people in them, and range from 20 cM to 36 cM. Do they descend from an ancestor who I haven't yet identified? Why do they not match any of my known matches? Thanks for your help!!

It can be tough to understand the idea that a group of cousins may have different segments of DNA from an Ancestor. Sometimes could be a stand alone cousin, who is the only one to have a particular segment from an ancestor. I wonder if will be any attempts by the DNA companies, to reconstruct ancestors DNA based on these observations? I know the Lazarus tool on Gedmatch, but will ancestry/23andme/myheritage get in on this someday? Would likely be many gaps in DNA as may be segments that no tested descendants posses.

Good explanation. So the auto-clustering tools arehis correct? only a good place to start. You really need to do triangulation. Is this correct?

Question, I have some verified matches to a common ancestor. Can use those verified matches to create my clusters by using the shared matches? If so, wouldn't they all be related on that specific line that the common ancestor is on?

Does triangulation matches mean direct or closer related than those in clusters?

I don’t think we are told what makes the triangulated group special and why one one would undertake the process besides finding common genetic markers. Is there a video that explains this?

I should add to my previous comment that these clusters are found on Ancestry, so there is no DNA browser to check chromosomes.

I ran my MyHeritage autocluster but the person I am interested in was excluded (he, my brother, some others and I triangulate). Here is the message I got for him (and others): The following 71 matches met the inclusion criteria but ended up in singleton clusters without other members and are therefore excluded from the analysis. Do you know why MyHeritage left him out? Thanks!

Auto Clusters do not include close matches because they would be in nearly all the clusters and that would create more confusion than usefulness. So, MyHeritage has a threshold that attempts to exclude many of your closest matches from auto clusters. But, when you look at a cluster, you can view individual members and see where they may (or may not) triangulate with the close relatives. Then you might figure out how the clusters are related to you.

Sorry to post this question here because it has nothing to do with your topic but I'm desperate for answers and you seem very knowledgeable about this whole genealogy topic...... My sibling and I have never done an ancestry or genealogy test before don't really know if there's a difference as we are not too familiar with the terms. We did decide to do a peace of mind DNA paternity test to make sure our dad was in fact our biological father....The results of the paternity test said he IS our Biological Father which we are extremely happy and relieved to know. But our question is about if we ever decide to do an ancestry/genealogy test as a family will the results of this test show us as a father/ children relationship? We ask this because we are so paranoid and worried an ancestry test will give completely different results than the paternity test. We know DNA is the same all over our body but we are afraid that since in paternity tests they only test 20+ markers and ancestry tests test thousands that it might give different results. Can you be so kind to explain to us if there is any remote possibility that we could get a different result, meaning that he might show as not our biological dad in an ancestry test result. We are so afraid and anxious about these DNA questions and topics and we just want to be sure we can trust the paternity test results. They were done with an accredited lab and we ourselves took our father's sample (toothbrush) to the facility and we were swabbed there. Everything was handled properly and we witnessed the whole process so there was no tampering or any funny business, I mention this so you have a little background info. We were extremely careful about it and even though it can't be deemed legal because we used a non traditional sample for our father the process was the same as if it would've been a chain of command. Thank you for your time.

Why don’t you just take the ancestry test so you can stop worrying so much? I’m not sure if this answers your question but ancestry and 23 and Me etc tests require you to spit in a tube and fill it up so your dads tooth brush would not be enough. He would have to participate. Why not buy him a kit for Xmas and ask him to participate? Anyway, I don’t see how it would give a “totally” different answer as far as paternity. Why would it? My brother and I both tested and it’s important to know that even though we get 50% of our DNA from each of our patents we don’t get the exact same 50%. That is why my eyes are blue and my hair is red like my Irish mom and my brother has brown hair and brown Eyes like our Italian birth father. But the test shows we are full siblings. So you don’t get the exact same 50% as eachother. It’s random in that sense. There are some distant cousins who show up as my relative but not my brothers and vise versa because of this. There is a ton of cool information you can learn by doing the ancestry dna test, I’ve built a family tree back to 1585 and learned about my ancestors settling with the pilgrims of the Mayflower, there’s a lot to learn beyond just the percentage of heritage. But if the paternity test showed your dad is your dad I think it’s safe to accept that result. Good luck.

@@FamilyHistoryFanatics I understand what she said. The worry we are having is that since these 2 DNA tests are advertised as different types of tests it makes us think we might get a different result (don't ask us why) therefore the doubts, anxiety, fear and questions. We will not get into details but needless to say there were rumors in our family regarding paternity so we took it upon ourselves to find out without anyone knowing. That's the answer to the question "why would it give a totally different result" (because at one point we thought it could) when you're dealing with a situation where your whole family might fall apart all kinds of doubts and questions get in your head. So this is why we thought of asking you about it since you seem to be knowledgeable about the genealogy/ancestry topic.
