My 95 year old father is a Marine and landed on Ga'an point. He was a crewman on an Amtrac in the second wave. His amtrac along with 21 other Amtracs were destroyed by two 75mm guns and one 37mm gun hidden in bunkers right at the water line. His tractor was hit from less than 50 feet away from the gun. The first round cut the driver in two but did not explode and most everyone was able to jump out before the second round exploded a couple seconds later. The Amtrac that landed right next to his had no survivors. He was not wounded but the other crewman suffered a bullet wound in the leg and later recovered. A few minutes later he saw a Marine throw a satchel charge into the hidden bunker and the gun was destroyed. A few minutes after that, a US tank came down the beach and fired into the bunker from just a few feet away from it He could not talk about that day for over 60 years but he can talk about it now as if it happened just yesterday. We visited guam 5 years ago for the 70th anniversary of liberation and the bunker is still there and it shows the damage from explosions. There are rusted metal pieces in the water nearby which are likely pieces of amtracs.

That is SO amazing Sapan! So many brave Marines and Soldiers really gave it everything to liberate Guam. I wish I knew more of the stories of these heroes.

Thank you for choosing Guam, among many more islands, to do a brief video of our history, our island itself and the experiences you've encountered while on the island.

The main reason people especially expats from the US come to Guam by way of the Philippines is because the federal perks to be on US soil. The naval hospital for those vets over 60 helps plus whatever Fed loans that may be applicable to obtain on US soil. As Guam is US soil it’s a popular destination especially for Filipinas looking to get US citizenship when they marry GI Joes flocking to the PI. Very common on Guam.

Guam is a little bigger than Whidbey Island, WA state and smaller than Molokai in the Hawaiian Island archipelago. It’s the most valuable piece of American real estate as the country pivots its strategic mission to secure the Pacific from China, Russia, & North Korea. Guam is the tip of the American spear to project its hegemonic power.

It is also similar to the island I live on in the Philippines; Negros Island. The same shape too!

Another great video David on a glorious quiet beach setting now than what is was over 70 years ago. The Japanese took over a lot islands in a way of trying to have the upper hand against the Americans.. Wherea's it was only a matter time when the Americans brought in extra force to take over the islands which followed to the Japanese demise later in the war..Interesting video informative and educational 👍 😊 👍
