Grammar Nazi reporting in late. Sorry. I think it’s time to give you a new pronunciation rule. This is one where there are very few exceptions. First, you need to understand the difference between long and short vowels. Maybe you already know this but, if not, let me explain. The long vowels are pronounced just as the letter sounds when followed by a single consonant. If followed by a double consonant, such as a double bb, dd,or a doubling of any consonant after a vowel, the vowel has the short pronunciation. The short sounds are: “a” as in cat, “e” as in set, “i” as in sit, “o” as in dot and “u” as in cut. The errors I noticed were in: “bladder” “Totter” and “Bonnie”. The vowels should have the short sound,not the long one. I’ve seen it occur on other videos too, but I told you I would wait to give you this one by itself because I don’t want to overload you when you’re practicing so many new skills. 2013 is a little poignant for me because my husband died on April 18, of that year.
