Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

4 жыл бұрын

Hello, and thank you for supporting my channel. These mid week unboxings are always surprising and usually have something that blows me away! The originality of peoples contributions is becoming more and more unusual as time goes by. This is primarily a Matchbox channel , but it is fast becoming a unique style of channel in it's own right. With these random unboxings there will always be some laughs and sometimes tears but above all, entertainment!
I hope that you enjoy the video. Please feel free to provide some honest feedback in the comments section.
Thank you, Marty.

tucker is rear engined, the vents are for cooling the engine. They are super rare in real life, only 51 ever made, and it's known that 48 of the 51 are still roadworthy. One of them belongs to the Smithsonian Museum, I've seen it. Amazing tech for it's day, pop out windshield rear engine, and disc brakes just to mention a few of it's first features.

I saw a black one in Melbourne, Australia three years ago driving steadily down a busy main road. It was beautiful, and had to check out the story of the Tucker online. I think it may be the only one in Oz. A few minutes later we passed it and it appeared to have broken down. I hope it's still in regular use.

The pin is indeed a ribbon/medal holder from central Europe. In the USA we use post pins while over there they used straight pins. The Red car from the beginning of this vid is a Chevrolet Chevelle SS, (Super Sport). The white car with the blue stripe down the middle is an Oldsmobile 442. Which was not only the car's name, but was the size of motor they put into it as well, it was, coincidentally Olds' answer to the Pontiac GTO. Both of them were muscle cars with huge engines in them built to go fast. I remember drooling over them both when I was a tween boy. Have a good one.

It'll make some of my letter in my box redundant but that's ok. 😁 The postal tracking says it was delivered this week (though I understand you have a backlog) so I'll be eagerly watching my KZfaq notifications. The colors on most of those Dinky models are close to what the real cars were, well some of them anyway. Boss 429 actually was available in that color, but it wasn't popular choice. 429 refers to the cubic inches of the engine, that's a huge engine. I had one in a Mercury Marquis, the speedometer goes up fast, but the gas gauge goes down just as fast.

Boss 429 Mustang was a limited run Mustang with a special 429 cubic inch engine that has hemi-spherical combustion cambers with canted valves and extra large intake runners that was basically a racing engine. It was put in a limited run of street Mustangs so the engines could be homologated to run in the NASCAR racing series, although in NASCAR they were put in the larger Torino and Cyclone bodies.

11:40 - That's a Chevrolet 'Chevelle' 'SS' (Super Sport). The name is pronounced 'SHEV-ELL'. Those are 1/43 scale, by the way. I had a pre 'Superfast' version of the 'O&K' excavator. I can't believe that it's from 1970. My father worked for a civil engineering company that had a real one on trials. He gave me the model, which got played with. A lot. I also had one of those Scammell cranes - again, pre 'Superfast', and it was yellow, not orange. Dad drilled two holes where the outrigger jacks were, and made a pair of jacks out of steel nails, that slid away when not in use. Having a civil engineer for a dad, meant having a lot of models of heavy plant in your toybox. In 1970, I was seven. The Ford truck with the yellow trailer - my brother had one - and it's the vehicle that had three Ford tractors on it. A plastic rig goes on the trailer to hold the tractors, but most kids, my brother included, removed it, so the trailer could carry anything. A nice toy. The Rice Horsebox is a bit of a rarity - it's a transitional model from being a Mettoy 'Husky', to a fully fledged 'Corgi' Junior. The casting has been altered to remove 'Husky' from it, hence the odd 'Corgi Junior' sticker. It still has the later 'Husky' four-hole wheels and tyres. Should you choose to restore it, it might be fun to reproduce the sticker to apply afterwards. That 'slightly chipped' Hungarian model looks like a copy of the blue and orange 23f 'Atlas Tipper Truck'.

That little device is a self timer for cameras. It's from the 1960's and if I'm not mistaken, a similar one was secretly stowed away on the Apollo 12 mission. Once on the Moon, Al Bean wanted to find it and for the first (and ONLY !!!) time, make a selfie with BOTH moonwalkers (he and Pete Conrad) in the photograph !! Alas, Al could not find it in time and the historic picture was never taken. Just before returning to the LEM for the last time, he suddenly DID find it, but it would take too long to set up the camera and give it a try. What a shame............

on the first one, that trailer is called what else, but a belly dump. They are often drawn in tandem when they're building roads and the like. You must go at just the right speed to dump properly. Too slow, the dirt dumps out too fast and the trailer raises up, sometimes enough to raise the rear wheels of the tractor off the ground and getting it stuck. Too fast, it spreads it too thin for the job required.

Wow! You were on the roof for a very long time no wonder Kevin has made himself really scarce! The long metal military object is indeed a medal brooch. On that particular one there are no holes so it was supposed to have pieces of ribbon attached to it and it would have been pinned to your tunic or shirt. I think having a soft brooch is best as it gets sewn to the tunic and is easier to wear as it is somewhat flexible. The poor little vehicle from Hungary really needs a makeover. Right now it looks rough but maybe a good scrub might improve it? You have received some very nice donations from people. Shows how much they care about you. My cat is asking me if her box for your cat ever arrived? It doesn't meet the unboxing requirement. Did anyone else manage to catch an odd sound at 4:42? Have you thought about only restoring half a vehicle and leaving the other half "as found? Like a before and after. Looking forward to the next MMM installment, Cheers!!

@9:23 Yes, the sticker shows that the annual registration fee has been paid. Our plates here in PA are made with little depressions in the four corners, to stick the stickers in. Some people put each new sticker in a different place, till the plate's covered. But a couple of years ago, the Commonwealth did away with the stickers, they cost too much. Now, you just pay your registration, and the police look it up online if they have to. And yes, Delaware is the First State, because it was the first to ratify the Constitution. At one time, they were part of Pennsylvania. We called Delaware, "the Lower Three Counties". @13:40 I'm not sure, but I think 1/43 was also one scale used for slot cars, back in the day.

These unboxing videos are almost as entertaining as the makeovers. Will Kevin ever show up in an unboxing episode?

Hey Marty. It says 1971 on underneath of the Tasker Transporter. I just noticed it as you turned it back over!

Many of the SLR's of the 70's and 80's you could screw that directly into the shutter button Cannon AE1 for example

Even earlier than that. I have an Argus C3 (probably1950s, but the model was built from the 1930s to the 1960s) that has a shutter release that timer would fit nicely -- and a couple Pentax SLRS from the 1980s it would also fit. One of those also went to the moon with Apollo 12 -- the astronauts intended to attach it to one of their cameras, take a timer pic of both of them and leave people wondering who else was on the moon to take the photo. When the time came, the thing had slipped too deep into the equipment case for the astronaut to find. Later, as they were reboarding the LM, he found it in a pocket and, by his account, chucked it as far away as he could.

Renault renamed in 1976 the base version of the R6 (Renault 6) in R6 L. Equipped with the smaller and old 845cc engine (34CV). Probably to clearly distinguish it from the new "powerful" 1.3 liter engine (55CV).

The mystery object I reckon that you're spot on with that, it looks like a medal bar. The Ford transporter was about 1971 I guess by the style of the cab unit. Oh and Marty "I never saw one of those" is your catch phrase.
