"This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!" "Uncle, that's what all tea is." "How could a member of my own family say something so horrible?" When So-Han was talking about bad tea, this was all I could think about XD

This dude, who I always enjoy seeing on the channel, is way beyond a tea nerd (a compliment, not an insult). But listening to him share knowledge while seeing Dan in a Motorhead (RIP Lemmy) t-shirt was a jarring juxtaposition! And seeing Bri all dressed up and looking fancy, unlike Dan, was a refreshing change. Loved it, love the channel, and love never knowing what to expect when the Saturday videos come out!

I used to work at a large Colorado hospital, non medical side. Food and nutrition department. I had the privilege of serving weekly tea, a portable high tea, to the NICU, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Generally premises and their parents. Big Feels happen in a NICU... I had a profund conversation with a dad in a NICU pod with his baby. Short version is, we discovered one of the important privileges of tea is resources, time being the big one. Time, access to fire, access to water, access to heating vessels and the star of the show, tea itself. ❤️❤️❤️ Such a convergence of blessings and resources.

This is great. I actually got really into tea after visiting china and going to a tea shop where the person there very graciously shared in a tea ceremony. I even bought part of a kung fu tea set. I love the approach to tea as not just a flavor but a call to mindful presence the tea being just a vehicle really. That said the tea in that shop remains head and shoulders above anything I’ve had since. But I suppose now I know where I need to visit.

OH THE DOUBLE FINGER TAP! I grew up drinking pu'erh/bo lei - and though there's a little bit of the mysticism of Chinese culture here with the large emphasis on qi and the holistic "feel" of tea, this is a pretty good intro to Chinese tea culture. The "mysticism" is definitely a part of the tea appreciation, but it's definitely not as large a focus as it may come across here. But I guess it is helpful to bring out those aspects to help newcomers to both tea and Chinese culture appreciate good tea (try explaining what yeet hei / hon leung is to someone without sounding like some mystical new-age quack). Oh, and tea drunk is really a thing (green-er teas can get overly leung [cooling] if drunk to excess) - which is why it's usually a good idea to not drink too much on an empty stomach - trust me from experience. Oh, and the tasting notes of pu'erh changes over the years and over different producers or whether it's raw or ripe tea. Generally 30-ish year old sheng pu'erh produce a more ginseng-like flavor which give way to interesting woody (sometimes sandalwood), mellow Chinese herb funk as they age further (which can be amazing if you're ready for adventure). Younger teas run the gamut of floral, spicy, honey sweet flavors, often with a strong wood-bark background. I'd strongly encourage whisky connoisseurs to give good kong fu tea a go if they can. It's completely eye-opening. Oh, and I love how newcomers think of old people when they drink pu'erh. Funnily enough, that's also how, traditionally, pu'erh's (especially aged raw or ripe pu'erh) been viewed.

When I had my first time proper tea in China it almost felt like tripping on mushrooms lightly. My friend felt the same thing. Back then I thought that this is because it was 35 C (~100 F) outside and we were sipping hot liquid. Later I learned that this really is a thing. For this feeling of being high I would recommend steamed Japanese tea. Although I like the taste of Chinese pan heated tea more, die Japanese stuff has the strongest effect.

You know a lot the tea the USA has had access to up until today is the equivalent of bud-light. We just haven't been given access to high quality leaves that aren't dust or leaves that aren't low quality. Which is often why tea here in the USA is bitter. If you ever do wanna give tea a second chance, I implore you to get a curator's choice from west china tea! This will allow you to mention what about tea you never liked and help the fulfillment team pinpoint the best teas for you to try.
