The "Batman, Yea!" guy was the same guy from the beginning of that movie who Batman saved from the vault. He was the security guard who said "Oh no, it's boiling acid!"

What about the archer in LotR: Two Towers, after they signal the retreat in Helms Deep? The guy, after the signal is done, people running etc, decides to draw an arrow yet never release it! Just puts the bow back down and walks away. I noticed it the very first time I saw the movie in theaters and cannot avoid it lol.

I'm an actor who also does background work. There is a difference between background (no lines) and Day Players (lines). Check out the award winning (surprisingly heart felt), feature documentary "Strictly Background"...

This. It's all still funny, but many of the folks they pointed out could've been stunt people who sucked at their job or for whom the timing was OFF for for that one take and it was somehow not corrected in another take or edited out (the Dark Knight no-hit guy), and many of these examples were day players/actors, not extras/background performers. Though some of them were DEFINITELY extras (Harvey Dent press conference scene) and they were hilarious, hah.

I imagine the Everything Must Go clip is some kind of Macaulay Culkin/Wile E Coyote situation when the kids set up a cardboard cutout of themselves and then sneaked away hoping the patents wouldn't notice.

You guys HAVE to watch Michael Jackson's BAD music video the one directed by Scorsese. When the call and response scene happens there's an asian guy behind Michael staring dead into the camera during the ENTIRE scene. I have no clue why no one brings this up. It's one of the most noticeable things in such an iconic music video. It gives me life.

12:35 That TDKR stunt extra falling when he wasn’t even hit can only be seen in the 16:9 widescreen. In the anamorphic widescreen where the film frame is even narrower, that extra flub is covered by the black bar so it’s not even seen. On my TDKR dvd/blu ray you can’t see it. When they air it on tv the black bars are gone so you can see it.

SUGGESTION for vol 2. There is a popular extra that has been in quite a few movies... if you search on KZfaq “The World’s greatest extra” he’s a chunky dude with glasses. You’ve seen him before, I guarantee it. He’s been in so many things... it would be cool and hilarious to watch you guys talk about him. Please try and do it! It would make my day. P.s. thank you guys for all that you do. My life has not been going all that great lately and I look forward to all the videos you guys put out. If you watch very closely, there is a slight movement of the boys head at approx 28:30. Where the clip loops, I think. So he must be moving very slowly?

In one of the Harry Potter movies, probably Goblet of Fire, there's a scene with a group of girls looking concerned, Hermione is in the center of the shot, but right next to her there's a black girl making a really dopey face while nodding her head.... It is inexplicable why she did that or why they left that shot in the film in the first place but it's hilarious.

With the new James Bond films the extras were told to mime out their actions as the sound recording was really sensitive. Essentially they weren't allowed to make *any* noise at all, as most of the scene was focused on the actors and everything else would be added in post. At least based on an interview I remember watching with some of the cast.

Those kids at the picnic table in the front yard are real kids. The story behind the take is that the director told the kids to sit still and not be a distraction. The kids took this direction extremely literal and didn't move. The director just meant don't overact not to sit creepily still lol.

My favorite bad use of an extra would have to be from Stranger than Fiction. theres a guy with a blue shirt and a mail bag that walks past will ferrel and dustin hoffman in the courtyard twice in the same scene.

I'm the opening fight scene in Gladiator when the Romans are fighting that Germanic tribe, if you're watching it in slo-mo just as the two sides clash you can clearly see two extas (might be more, been a few years since I saw it last) from opposing forces/sides standing there having a casual chat, blissfully unaware that the Director has yelled 'Action'. All the other extras start charging towards eachother and just as the two sides clash, you can see those 2(+) guys just standing around chatting and joking on with eachother....how the f*ck didn't they know the camera was rolling when everybody else has exploded into action ...surely it must be intentional, classic Extra sabotage hah haa😂 I spotted it myself as a kid and to this day have never seen anyone else notice besides people I've have told about it. Would be awesome to see you guys cover it!

On the Steven Segal thing: Not only did he actually hit people, but the extras in the first few movies are all the same, because his students were the only ones who could take the hits/techniques without breaking.

Holdo's kids are actually there. You can see the boy shift his head a miniscule when JTE jumped back to the beginning of the scene. There is also a squirrel or something moving in the top right. Still hilarious. Don't move kids!

I can see that. There are definitely henchman and low-level criminals in the comics and cartoons who can't keep their backbone for long when Batman shows up and some literally fall over themselves trying to get away.

It's pretty widely documented that the extras in Star Wars were British stage actors, so I think Americanized (and pretty disinterested) looping is to blame for most of those weird ones. Oddly enough, though, that pilot - Derek 'Hobbie' Klivian, for those EU nerds - is played by Richard Oldfield, an AMERICAN stage actor working in Britain at the time. So who knows what THAT'S about.

English law (at that time; it may still be the case, I'm not sure) was that an attempt must first be made to cast people living in England before casting those from outside the U.K. A good example is Aliens. Jenette Goldstein, playing Vasquez, was cast in the film, though she's American, because she was living in England at the time. That put her in the casting pool immediately. Btw, the US does this, too. The Lost producers had to jump through major hoops to get Evangeline Lilly a work permit to shoot the pilot because the US government couldn't understand or accept that a suitable US resident couldn't do the job. They only got the work visa and passage to the US at the last second once they convinced someone in authority that they had auditioned extensively to find a US resident who could give them the performance they wanted and couldn't. The fact that Lilly was an unknown who, I think, had only done Canadian commercials to that point made it hard for immigration to accept she could do the job.

I don't know what this panel missed, but I missed ALL of those special moments when I first watched those films. Please educate me, educate all of us, more Background Extras That Added To/Ruined Movies. Oh and make this the permanent panel, w/JTE adding his talents from afar, for this (hopefully soon to exist) series.
