Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (stylized as 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer) is a 2007 superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team the Fantastic Four. A sequel to the 2005 film Fantastic Four, the film is directed by Tim Story. Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/The Thing are the film series' recurring protagonists, while Julian McMahon and Kerry Washington reprise their roles from the first film as Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom and Alicia Masters, respectively. Beau Garrett appears as Frankie Raye, along with Doug Jones as Norrin Radd/Silver Surfer, with Laurence Fishburne voicing Silver Surfer.

Can we just give the Michael Chiklis a round of applause. He wanted to give the most authentic in-person portrayal of The Thing regardless of the film's quality. As such, he insisted on wearing cumbersome make-up and costume instead of just simply voicing a CGI character for the same pay and less effort.

I don't see a problem with the films , Chris Evans is my favorite, it's amazing how he did other super hero roles, the world saw he was made to be one :) (though Reed And Sue and The Thing are as well).

Funny that I didn't remember that back I originally saw this, but I was TOTALLY thinking that while watching this! Such a shame that Critic didn't mention that... but of course he didn't know how to pronounce Galactus and used the picture of him from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, so he clearly isn't the biggest fan of this franchise to make references to that (even though Super Skrull was actually IN MvC3... so, he really Should have known about him!)

If anything, Silver Surfer is actually really well done. He's not particularly interesting but since he's pretty much a cookiecutter copy of the original that's not really on him and his powers are as cool as ever. I also really liked Captorch Humerica in this one.

i actually liked these two movies and they were pretty popular at the time, i think it's mainly after the MCU arose that people started comparing these films to those and started hating the Fantastic Four films because they dont compare to those films. The same people who hate it today liked it when it came out though :/

@@arthas640 They got bad reviews even at the time though. Roger Ebert gave the first one 1 star and named it the 10th worst film of 2005. If anything people look back on them somewhat more fondly now due to Fant4stic.

That bad Stan Lee cameo was actually straight from the comic. Both Stan Lee and Jack Kirby get turned away. It's actually one of the few good scenes in the movie. Also, is Critic just saying Galactus wrong on purpose, or did I really miss that in the movie?

I wouldn't, because things changing in adaptations is totally acceptable. Ian Malcom was an old man with a limp and he was changed to sexy Jeff Goldblum, the Losers Club in It gangbanged each other as kids and that was changed because it's fucking disgusting and Snape was described as a nightmarish ghoul of a man and he was given both gravitas and better characterization with Alan Rickman. Hell, for comic books, Deadpool is an unrepentant mass-murderer who kills kids and he was changed in the films to a likable, nicer lighter shade of neutral in the movies because of Ryan Reynolds charisma. Things changing is fine when adapting works from other mediums. Calling Victor von Doom something less stupid is totally acceptable and when he appears in the MCU, you better fucking believe they're NOT gonna call him that lol

I'd say 3 and a half chances... I wouldn't say that the very first attempt at a Fantastic Four movie fully counts. EVERYTHING regarding that movie was literally done half-assed so I'd even say it wouldn't even get a full "chance" of even making the movie in general... the other 3 movies count as a full attempt... they still suck but there studios were actually attempting to make a good movie; keyword there is "attempting" lol ...so yeah, there's really ONLY been 3 and a half attempts at making a "Fantastic Four" movie... NOT a full 4 attempts lol

In creative writing classes, many are also taught to never end a story on the "and it was all a dream?" note, but _Inception_ broke that mold and turned out to one of the more successful recent movies. Hard rules don't really mesh well in creative spaces. Hard rules in the technical sciences, absolutely, but not in the arts.

Yeah Galactus is one of the greatest marvel villains of all time and they botched him up big time in this film. I've read the 80s Surfer comics and Galactus was always one of the best parts. Unlike the X-Men where I would be okay if Fox kept the rights I can't wait for Feige to get his hands on Marvel's first family.

Seriously, all they needed was to twitch the idea a little bit: how about the F4 actually worrying about what is happening in the world, but since they've become celebrities, the public and the media demands them to have a wedding because it is the most anticipated event in the history of ever. Even the government can be on it in order not to spread panic (everyone is too focused on the wedding so they can fight the Silver Surfer). Now the F4 face a conflict between saving the world and giving people what they want.

As a kid I didn't realize the giant cloud was suppose to be Galactus. I guess I must have blanked out or forgot when the Surfer mentioned his name when he was talking about him. I found out literally when I was an adult watching GOTG back when it first came out, me and my friends were having a conversation and mentioned how I wanna see Galactus on the big screen. My buddy reminded me that he already was. You can imagine how I felt when I realized what the cloud was suppose to be and I never realized

One positive thing about this movie (for me, at least) is that it actually re-introduced me to the Silver Surfer. I was a little kid, and one of my toys that I used to play with was an action figure of Silver Surfer (I knew he was Marvel, but I didn't know his name, so I called him "The Metallic Wave-Rider"...quite a mouthful). That is until I saw this movie playing on YTV (A Canadian TV mishmash station of Cartoon Network shows, Nickelodeon shows, and other shows). It still leaves me wondering if Silver Surfer is a bad guy or a good guy, because he seems to be on both sides.

The Surfer's alignment depends on who’s writing for him at the time. Though to my knowledge he’s never outright hostile, at most somewhat aggressive and cold. But he’s definitely a much better herald than the previous guy, who’s name I admittedly forget.

Once an object reaches a certain size, it will be a sphere due to gravity. Although, it's a movie about people with super powers so i doubt anyone would nitpick it that hard if he was a big giant dude.

12:16 Well, interestingly enough, Fishburne WAS supposed to voice Galactus in this film but because they decided not to have Galactus in a speaking role, Fishburne went on to voice the Silver Surfer instead. See what I mean?

What works are on a couple of characters like David Prowse as the Body of Darth Vader from Star Wars and James Earl Jones does the voice Monique Ganderton as the Body of Proxima Midnight from Infinity War and Carrie Coon does the voice Lorene Yarnell as the Body of Dot Matrix from Spaceballs and Joan Rivers does the voice
