I just find it easier to use my thumb if I wanna pick hard to get all distortion working. Obviously on an acc. guitar this would be counterproductive.
@garethlewis4586
@garethlewis4586 4 жыл бұрын
I do it differently. I swap my pick grip and allow index finger to touch the node point and then hit the string. It's not ideal as you have to learn to grip the pick with the middle finger and thumb but I find it personally to be a more accurate way of doing it
@tetanusforbreakfast3500
@tetanusforbreakfast3500 4 жыл бұрын
i think Ola using his thumb too. he might not be aware of it, but it definitely seems like it from this video. he downstrokes, then there is the immediate pinch harmonic. he did not bring back his palm/fingers to use his index/middle finger to touch the string; or doing any upstrokes. So i think he is using his thumb. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bp6Eg6qo2L6ulXU.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtCifriovMvScps.html

Hey man, thanks for telling us about the b-stock page in last week's FAQ, I wouldn't have found it otherwise. I think it would be more logical if it was accessible through the guitars page rather than the community page though. The website is a bit buggy as well. Go to the guitars page, then scroll down a little and try to select one of the menu buttons at the top (Guitars, Artists, Community, etc.) ;). Anyways, thanks to you and this FAQ my very first (B-stock) 7-string is on its way and I'm super excited! This is the second Solar I buy in 6 months so you must be doing something right with those. Please keep doing what you do, you do it well. Much love.

Hello from France Ola, I love your work! One question for your FAQ: I'm going to be a father soon and I'm afraid I'll have much less time to play guitar and progress. How did you manage your guitar work and the birth of your two children ?
@Targon999
@Targon999 4 жыл бұрын
As a father of a 6-year-old son, I can tell you this: in the first one or two years, you won't have that much time if you take the whole thing seriously and accept that your child needs you more than you need your guitar playing. But it won't matter since you will be very happy with raising your kid. After some time, you'll get used to the new situation and things will slowly get back to normal, or at least you will have more time for yourself. All the best to you and your family 🤘

Dad to a 3 year old. I have my setup by one of his play areas. I just started playing in front of him, and he started to wanna play with me, so I let him bang around on the bass or one of my junkers. Now he'll just keep playing while I jam half the time. Keep ripping dude. The more your kid sees your passion for something, the more likely they are to be inspired by it and take it up themselves.
@FilipFichoBoshevski

First, Congrats dude! I have a 3.5 year old son and I had the same fear as you...what I learned was- you will have MUCH less time then before, and when you do, you'll be way too tired to play haha...luckily this is only during the first 1-2 years. During this period it will require extra effort on your part to stay motivated to want to play (especially if its something you Need, to function as a human being). Also, no 2 families are alike- if you have no grandparents/relatives around to give you a hand on a daily basis, you'll find yourself short of playing time...if you're lucky to have some support, you might be able to play more. What I did was, played for 15-30 min whenever I could during the first 2 years. Now, I play every day for 2 hours after 9pm...but I never "steal" from the family time while my son's awake. You'll be fine, family first and the rest will follow :) Good luck to you

I agree with the pedal platform subject. I use a cheap peavey transtube supreme on the clean channel with my eVh preamp/overdrive and a horizon devices precision drive through the front of the amp and it sounds monstrous. I’m actually aiming for a SD powerstage 170 with the same pedal setup for shows and stuff.

I've also recently come across a really cool used amplifier at my local shop. The Egnater Tweaker 15 watt. While it is not a metal amp, per se, it really does a lot of other slightly lower game tricks really well. I also have a Wampler dracarys pedal which can turn anything with a decent clean channel into a metal amp pretty quickly. They're only asking $270 USD for it. I presume that this is based on the fact that it isn't a Fender, Marshall, Mesa, or a more popular boutique amp.

When you're recording, do you get a good amp sound first, then worry about mic placement, and post processing? Or you do tweek the amp to fit the recording more after the setup? I've found that sometimes either way can lead to good results, but sometimes I feel trying to capture the sound in the recording is more frustrating than just tweeking the sound on the amp going in. Sometimes it's difficult to know how it should sound in the raw recording knowing it'll be different in the mix later. Any tips, or workflow on these details?

If I recall, for his album, he tracked directly to the PC and then send it for a studio to make the reamp process.
@DJAMAYADOTCOM
@DJAMAYADOTCOM 4 жыл бұрын
@@toribiogubert7729 Yes, I'm aware of this process, but even in re-amping the same concept applies. It more or less boils down to at which stage in the tone sculpting is optimal workflow or best results. Especially if IRs are involved, because I've found that IRs just don't have the same frequency response as the source (I've been making my own IRs and A/B them against the source using parallel recording of the DI and the mic), and even with really good IRs you have to do more tweeking potentially. And during my test I found that a if you spend enough time at the source with a 57 coupled with tweeking the amp to sound good in the mic (as opposed to forcing a good room-sound and micing it up trying to capture that specific sound) the amount of post processing was drastically lower, plus the low end was more naturally cut without having to do as much filtering out on the low-end ... however I'm still curious on how other people do this process (or at least the order of it).

Question for the next FAQ: Do you have any tips for creating a solid high gain tone such as tips on EQ setting? I tend to have issues with having too much treble to the point it becomes like an ice pick and I'm not sure why this is.
@guitarandgames1386
@guitarandgames1386 4 жыл бұрын
Here's an answer from a past musician and past studio worker. Pickups and amps are probably the reason for your icepick tone at least in my experience. I use the Seymour Duncan dimebucker pickup and a 6505 to blend the eq of both the amp and pickups together. See an amp such as a 6505 will have a lot of mid and high gain yet the dimebucker has a lot of low end. So it all helps together. Yet a Marshall amp usually has little to no high end so using a high eq pickup would help with that. And take this with a grain of salt as this is only my experience and I cannot know everyone's situation. Cheers
