Sadly, we lost another great man. The voice of baseball for 67 years - the incomparable Vin Scully. Rest easy Vinny, you will be missed.
FAREWELL TO VINNY
‘Well Hi Everybody - it’s time to play ball’
Words we’d hear each spring through the fall
Transistor radio placed close to our ear
His golden voice came through loud and clear
He’d paint a canvas - of a clear spring day
We’d hang on each word he’d say
The cut of the grass - the freshly chalked lines
Getting better with age - like any fine wine
The play by play - the stories he’d tell
Of players and coaches he knew so well
Philosopher and poet from beginning to end
A man we knew well as our lifelong friend
Followed Giants and Dodgers - as they moved west
No need to argue - he was simply the best
He knew the game both inside and out
Taught us so much - left no room for doubt
With a song in our heart - and a tear in our eye
So long for now Vinny - we must say goodbye
We will think of you often - on wings you will fly
To that field of dreams - that diamond in the sky
The voice of baseball for sixty-seven years
REST EASY VINNY
