A song written as a chronicle of a recent roadtrip to Yellowstone. Partially inspired by a theme posed as ‘The Great Outdoors’ by one of the Meet Up groups I play with monthly. One of the fine groups of musicians it is my pleasure to be a part of.
WIDE OPEN SPACES
We took a road trip - thought we’d get away
Our plans for Lahaina - shelved for another day
Headed way up yonder - to faraway places
Off to Yellowstone - and the wide open spaces
Gassed up the old Ford - called ‘Buster’ by name
After the Giants catcher - soon to be Hall of Fame
Packed up the suitcase - along with some snacks
Tossed in the old guitar - plenty of room in the back
Our first stop in Elko - 500 miles down the road
Good run for day one - then off to Jackson Hole
Next day to Grand Teton - such a spectacular sight
After hiking around - sure slept well that night
Our next destination - breathtaking Yellowstone
Saw sights for two days - yeah where the buffalo roam
Then off to Boise - to visit family and friends
Sadly like all road trips - it was coming to an end
A stop in Klamath Falls - as we headed for home
Drove past Mt. Shasta - man the Lake sure has grown
25 hundred miles - when all was said and done
Love those wide open spaces - a lotta fun in the sun!
