it doesn't matter though because once he reaches Platinum, he'll probably drop the game for a while if not for good and he definitely won't reach Duel Pass Level 100 within that period giving that ya don't derank if ya lose from Platinum and lower. PS : the gems are also irrelevant since his account is new so the game will throw so much gems at him anyways

Yu-Gi-Oh-player here who isn't into Hearthstone: this video was SUPER entertaining. You made a lot of progress learning Swordsoul and the synergy between you and Farfa is awesome. this unironically was one of the best streams for learning the modern aspects of the game. Like how to bait out negates and forcing interactions out of your opponent. The Vanquish soul duel was the most complex game rarran played. Even with farfa's help to navigate that duel was not easy.

I think this was a good intro into how the game plays, you learned a lot about this game, and how Swordsoul Tenyi works. Even though you timed out on your last game, you would've played through an incredibly resilient deck if you just had a few more things in muscle memory. There's a lot to keep track of in yugioh, but your next streams with this game should have you gaming on a new level. Good job, Ranran!

so the 2nd game if you're not worried about belle you can do a more optimal baxia turn 1 combo. taia send mo ye. adhara link into monk. activate adhara adds longyuan from banish to hand. baxia pops itself to special mo ye. mo ye reveal longyuan then synchro into chixiao. the endboard is the same but you get the mo ye draw. also you need mo ye as an attribute if you want to go protos because you only have earth and wind cuz ashuna is banished and longyuan is in hand. only reason to not do this is to play around belle. which is a meta call but belle is pretty rare especially in a maxx c format where there's less flexibility in deck building.

The game sounds so much more complicated when Farfa explains it but surprisingly, he's actually doing a good job explaining it. I think what's weird is that I know tons of youtubers who played yugioh for the first time but got the hang of this fairly quickly but it's somehow different for you. Maybe it's like teaching an old dog a new trick, it's hard to learn a new card game when you've played so much Hearthstone? idk

In my experience, even 10 years ago when the game was much slower, yugioh was harder for people who came from a mana system to learn how to play without mana than it was for a yugioh player to learn a game with mana.

farfa set the bar pretty high. if you make it to diamond im impressed already. i mean its basically just a question of how many duels you make but still, it takes endurance and some level of understanding of the game. you will encounter a lot of important cards on your way there. the cards that show up more often are most likely important to know so make sure to memorize them. oh boy what did you get yourself into, the entry to this game is so rough. i hope you will get to the point where you dont have to read and think so much anymore because the higher you climb the lower the cardpool. once youre familar with most it its so much easier and more enjoyable

You ask people questions they may not know so that they are encouraged and pressured to figure it out themselves with a nudge of direction. This way is far better at retaining what was learned than just explanation, especially when you can assume the learner is either overwhelmed by context, or has no context. Thats almost literally teaching 101. As for the "why dont you know this" hes probably actually suprised, either at how far he got without knowing, how it didnt come up before, or how the game tutorial didnt teach well.

honestly, they shoudn't focus too much on his own deck, just let him fail when he misplays and let him know so he can correct rather than just telling him what's the best play or just hinting in the direction to go, it's a lot more intimidating having to deal with a different enemy deck every game, I'd focus on telling him on what his enemy is probably going to go for, wether he should prepare for beatdown/traps etc, give him general use cheat sheets on when to use ash/imperm on key archtype targets

Dude, if Farfa had done that, he would have just lost on spot when he met actual players, at least doing things like this will give him the situations and informations on why he should go into a specific combo lines then after that Farfa and him can review with replays rather than let him fail, lose and talk about it after. Because if he had made mistakes and lost on spot, he would have had to visualize the situations from the points he made those mistakes and build the combo lines from then, which makes it more confusing and hard for both Farfa and himself since he haven't quite remembered those cards' names and effects yet
