Those pigs reminded me of my youth. We had a bin of wheat that was spoiled from rain. We would soak the wheat in the old metal milk cans and sprout it for the use of the pigs. They loved it and did great . I have also fed them on excess milk. Some farmers in the 60's had a deal with a cheese factory near me and took all the excess whey to feed their pigs. That was before they used so much whey in food today.

That is an interesting concept of enticing the “youth group” to leave the cows. The four pigs always make me smile with their behaviors!!! Thank you for another digital delight. As I’ve said before, I’m reminded of my grandparents’ farm and those wonderful years as a child doing farm work.

Those pigs are growing nice.... hope you enjoyed your vacation, Love seeing all those babies.. when are you planning to butcher them?
@FarmandHammer3 жыл бұрын
I’m hoping to butcher the first two at 200-250lbs. It might take them a while to get there but I’d hate to butcher them any smaller.

With keeping back those 2 bulls she does that mean for the rest of your herd? Or are you going to have them breed different cows on your farm?
@FarmandHammer3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they will breed a different unrelated group of cows on another patch of land.

@@FarmandHammer understood. How many cows and heifers do you have now?

Soo...calves ear tagged?
@FarmandHammer3 жыл бұрын
We don’t ear tag calves anymore. The only animals we eat tag are confirmed bred heifers entering the herd. For us there isn’t much of a need to do so, it just stresses the cows out and the tags get cut out after the sale barn anyway. Just a personal preference thing for us 👍
@mikejackson90013 жыл бұрын
easier to find and maintain books security and peace of mind go along way might change your mind also if go to a blk bull you want to tag them to know whos who lol all at once

Why doesn't work hire more staff so you can have a life
@FarmandHammer3 жыл бұрын
They have almost increased the staff by about 50% but Covid has orders going through the roof and we can’t seem to keep up. As much as it sucks, the business has been trying to reward us for our efforts.
