I normally have a terrible job with pomegranates but after watching this video I can't wait can't wait to buy one tomorrow

Loved the technique. My Grandmother a native of SW Florida had acres of every fruit species & florals you could grow in that tropical climate. She used any water from the final step to make a wonderful tea. In today's trends you could use it in salad dressings, smoothies..just don't pour it on your plants because it's packed full of antioxidants & vitamins. She made passion fruit teas & jam/sauces for ice cream or vanilla pannacota. Mango sorbet, mango jam/sauces. Guava jam was my favorite & Guava tea. There were Mulberry, homegrown strawberries & acres of citrus groves. Key lime cake or pie, breads, cookies. Thomas Edison was a neighbor & they traded Orchids & stories. I miss her & the paradise she created from scratch to support her six children following my Grandfathers early death. She was an amazing woman. She'd.take me wading thru the Everglades Cypress Swamps looking for wild orchids, staghorn ferns, & air plants. She & her second husband would make furniture from Cypress knees that was so beautiful. Thanks for triggering those memories.

I tried this last night and it worked pretty well. My pomegranate sections weren't nearly as well defined, so it was more time intensive. But, much easier than other methods. A large deep bowl is key to keeping the mess confined.

I have performed the wooden spatula method before, but I am grateful to see how you cut the cap off of it and cut only so far down allowing so many arils to fall out with that. I really like how you teach and are so detailed. Thank you.

I've seen other videos that show this sort of method but sometimes seem to cut off the cap at the other end (more messy) and most importantly you explained how - WHERE- to score the skin so as not to cut through the middle of the "pod" which holds the kernels of the fruit. In other words, that beginning part explaining the anatomy of the pomegranate was very helpful. Great tutorial video.

I bought some already processed seeds but, in case I didn’t have enough, I also bought a pomegranate. I have measured and I do have enough seeds so now I can try this technique but without anxiety! There is ALOT of pomegranates here in Mexico. Surprising how you use almost the same technique as we mexicans do! I would greatly recommend trying out pomegranates to the ones that haven't tried it because they are very delicious 😁👍.

Thanks so much for this video! It made processing a large amount of pomegranates very easy. First time I was really able to utilize the tree on our property. :)

Absolutely amazing! I thought I had it down pretty good and was doing pretty much what you did right up to the point where you used the spoon. But past that point I used considerable time manipulating the seeds on out. If you reverse the compound curvature (turn the spheroid inside out, manipulation goes pretty fast but not remotely as fast as just hitting it with a spoon! I suspect that the success of hitting with a spoon to knock them all the way out is dependent on the right stage of ripeness but that's what you really want to get anyway. What I've always done to reduce the price is to wait until the price is minimal not because they're already too ripe, but because there are so many on the market and then buy a couple of cases, process them as you've done, and freeze it. Farmer's markets or a good Chinese markets have been the best places to get good prices in my area. You should get a discount by buying them by the case. Thanks for the excellent demonstration!

Wow! This really works! I used to avoid getting pomegranates even though I love them because of all the work and mess. They would end up shriveling up on my counter and I would throw them out after having them sit there for several months. I can see a lot more fresh pomegranate seeds in our future here now! You could put the seeds (?) in a small bowl and let the water slowly rise up and over the top to get rid of any and all of the waste that is in the bowl and if there is any heavy waste you could then just put the seeds in a colander and run water over them...Thanks for explaining things so well.

My mother used to cut pomegranates open and juice them on a citrus juicer (she used the one on her stand mixer). Then she would strain the juice and use it to make the most wonderful jelly! Beautiful clear red and delicious!

WOW!!!! Thank you! My children, grandchildren and myself all like pomegranates. For twenty year's I loathed the time, mess and cleanup when processing pomegranates. BUT YOU enlightened me and guess what? I'm not going to let on who taught me the cleaner, quicker, more morsels way ( unless they grill me; I cannot tell a lie). Thank you for this. I have been wondering what to do with the pomegranates from our tree. Unfortunately, we didn't pay close enough attention and most of ours split open and the birds got to them. I did get 6 though. We were also totally unsure on when to harvest. We both had the experience of getting pale pink seeds that were so under ripe and sour we gave them to the chickens. I used to do it so haphazardly although it was part of the ritual for me the joy of uncovering segment after segment of the beautiful jewel like fruits was intense: an aesthetic pleasure as well as the anticipation of the taste!
