A drive to the boat launch, a few incredible passes in #358, zipping by the dock, and a quick interview with owner/driver Bobby Clark.
Compared to a previous video featuring Bobby, the boat seems to be flying better, and according to the driver... faster.

Ben Lloyd Compared to a piston boat, you can barely hear it coming. All the race boats leave a wake about two inches high, and they are gone in a flash. Also, when out practicing, the race drivers give right of way, and a large margin to anyone who's out enjoying their boat. Guys like you get a lot of respect. Usually boaters wave at us.

@davidkillens8143
@davidkillens8143 3 жыл бұрын
Electric starter for the T-58. It is in the nosecone, and the electric wiring to the starter is what you saw. It takes a lot of power to crank it up to starting speed. In fact, a false start results in going for a coffee (if possible) to allow the starter motor to cool down.

Love the Canadian Spring/ Summer we get the jet boat videos👍 Jay could you run a Lycomming t55 in these boats or are there constraints? The off shore boat runs twin Lycommings or is it a jet boat rule to stay with the T 58s Cheers mate
@AgentJayZ
@AgentJayZ 9 жыл бұрын
grant weymouth The rules are open to anything, but the boats need to be small enough to navigate the sometimes tight race courses made on the smaller rivers. The T-58 requires a hull 2ft longer than the piston boats use, and that has a noticeable effect on turning and handling.

@lerkzor
@lerkzor 9 жыл бұрын
Alan Caraway the 'jet' in 'jet boat' refers to the jet of water that propels the boat. You can have a jet boat with a piston engine for a power plant, or you can use a gas turbine, like this boat does. In aircraft, the 'jet' refers to thrust from shooting air out a jet nozzle at high velocity. These boats have no jet thrust from the exhaust, all the power is tapped by a turbine to run an impeller to squirt water.
@alancaraway6023
@alancaraway6023 9 жыл бұрын
CacheRAM I can understand the confusion. I am aware of the mechanics of final drive propulsion, and also aware of piston engine implementation vs "jet" engine utilization. I guess my initial comment of the marriage of a "jet" final drive and a T-58 turboshaft from an aircraft was offensive to chocolate, peanut butter, and piston engine lovers. My sincere apologies!

@mytmousemalibu
@mytmousemalibu 9 жыл бұрын
preben birkeland I believe they are manually controlled by the pilot of the boat. As for a blowover, I don't think they are intended to stop one, if the boat is going over, the canards aren't going to stop it. The bottom of the hull has way more area for air to blow against, and if the bow gets that high, the crew is in for a rough ride.
