I absolutely love fat washed cocktails. Thank you so much for sharing!! This looks wayyyyy less complicated than expected and I'm gonna start fat washing spirits for my mini bar at home as well! Also planning to infuse them with some herbs/spices/flowers, so excited, can't wait!

Very insightful! Just started playing around with bacon fat-washed bourbon. You're a braver man than I for wearing a suit while doing this!

I use a funnel and cheese cloth first and then additional filters that get smaller as I go. It takes a while, and you do get some loss of alcohol but the end product is better.

What about buttermilk? Does it get in the rum? And can u avoid that by using clarified butter?

What is the amount of fat to alcohol?

Hi Hugh, it depends on the type of fat used eg: for strong tasting fats like bacon fat we'd recommend 120g/4 oz per 750ml and for less strong fats like butter and vegetable oils we'd recommend 240g/8 oz. @@Future88993 t's best to store the liquid in the fridge. Under these conditions, the fat-washed whisky will keep for about two weeks.

Do the fats take on any characteristics of the alcohol?

The fats will infuse with the alcohol, as will the alcohol take on the characteristics of the fat.
