Some guy in South Carolina died after putting fireworks on top of his hat and lighting them. They exploded, causing fatal head trauma. What an utterly pointless way to lose a loved one.

He was pronounced dead at the scene due to a delayed mortar detonation......meaning; he bent over to look at why a firework didn't go off and it launch into his face decapitating him. Neighbors found remains in their yard. The family witnessed it too.

In my apartments, two young teens were shooting off fireworks in the parking lot, and when I told them that it was dangerous and they could catch our roofs on fire, they ran and got their mom who hollered out "Mind your own business, lady."

In our little town 1 family is just trash. They start their fireworks shenanigans around June 10th and it doesn't end until around August 1st. All aerial fireworks are ILLEGAL in our state and sure enough this family of degenerates drives across state lines to buy them and then they proceed to light them off where it is illegal. Luckily we aren't right next door to them but down the same block. It's very annoying.

I spoke with his sister after it happened, he was posing for a selfie with the lit fire work next to his face. She said they were trying to get a shot where the sparks from the lit fuse would reflect off his eyes, but kept having to put out the fuse and light it up again because they couldn't get it right. Eventually, it went off.

@mikekane2492 I'm not saying his death was deserved, but I'm not denying the fact of the dangers involved when someone acts as though reality is whatever he/she wants it to be. These laws exist for reasons in cities, and common sense and consideration of others are too often lacking. Sometimes, this lack results in very bad effects. Sometimes, this lack even results in injuries to the person or other people - even to the point of burning down homes. There is an old saying: "If you play with fire, expect to get burned."

When I was 12-years-old the neighbor across the street blew off several fingers holding onto a firework. Even then, after making sure he’d be alright, I remember asking, “Why would he do something like that? Fireworks are dangerous!” I’m sad he won’t be able to overcome this last stupid thing, particularly for his children.

That sucks. I remember in Lombard in the year 1996 my bosses brother who I did some drywall repair about 4 months before forth of July blew his face off when he thought the firework was out and looked into the giant tube and it killed him. Dangerous stuff.

On another report they said the guy had lit a mortar and when it did not go off, he got closer to it to find out what happened and that’s when it exploded and killed him.

A DANGEROUS family tradition. My dad NEVER wanted us to play with fireworks and instead took us to a professional show. That was 40 years ago. 🤷🏼♀️

His death is tragic, but what's more tragic is that he left behind two kids and an unborn baby. The immaturity of some people, like this guy is ridiculous. If anyone should make sure nothing happens to them, it's people who have kids.

Tragedies every 4th. A few years ago, some people thought I was extreme for bringing a bucket of water, a fire extinguisher, and using cones to block off the area where I would light fireworks, one at a time, with an extended lighter. If you’re doing the lighting, take full responsibility.

I reckon there's a distinction to be made between firework and explosives. I grew up in England where every street celebrated Guy Fawkes night with huge bonfires and thousands of fireworks. Every year people lost eyes or fingers or suffered burns but we just considered it part of the risk with any human activity. Most of the injuries were avoidable and considering the scale of the celebrations, really uncommon. Setting off powerful explosives on top of your head... well that's an American thang, innit?

Sorry to say this but what had happened to this guy could have easily been prevented. You don't have your head or any body parts over a mortar tube or any firework for that matter. 99% of firework accidents happen because of stupidity. 1% from actually firework malfunction. And as far as fires thats again stupidity. Alot of fireworks will smolder for a long time and if thrown in the trash you have yourself a fire. Its common sense. These are the people thst ruin it for people that use firework safely.

Exactly. It was a horrific accident from an unwise decision that has left deep hurt and devastation. We have drivers, professionals and other humans who succumb to mistakes somewhere every day. The outcomes are very sad. Let there be some compassion.

There is an inherent risk when doing fireworks. Some of them are duds and do detonate literally seconds after lighting the fuse. Make sure you have copious amounts of fuse on the big fireworks.
