KG, good advice. I started coming out to people in order from the least to the most important. The first people I told were my colleagues at a part time job that I could quit any second if things went sour. I wanted to test it out and they were very supportive. Then I came out to some friends, then siblings and finally parents last. It was a good strategy to take baby steps. It also helped to build my confidence about people's reactions.

Many people are so quick to accuse those who aren't comfortable with homosexuals of actually being closeted themselves. That may be the case with a few but in general I don't think such a simplistic explanation is the correct one. It almost sounds more like the kind of childish insult someone might fling while in a heated argument about it, more so than a real attempt at explaining what may be going on, and the root of attitudes like these.
