If you ever have a debate with Scott Blair--who was invited to attend Harvard Law--make sure you have your facts straight. It's a lesson an ex-gay counselor learned soon into their first--and last--meeting.
Check out our podcast of LGBTQ stories: imfromdriftwood.com/podcast

www.imfromdriftwood.com aims to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people learn more about their community, straight people learn more about their neighbors and everyone learn more about themselves through the power of storytelling and storysharing.

Technically the Roman Empire didnt fall they restructured themselves into the Holy Catholic Church... The Emperor became the Pope... they expanded the conquered land of the empire by sending priests..they tax their empire in the forms of tithes. Instead of an army they keep people in subjection by threatening hell. The Catholic Church is an example of the single greatest rebranding campaign in history!

Agreed; I'm an entire homosexual and I've been asked that annoying question, "How do you find men attractive?" so many times. I mean...how do you even answer that? I guess it would have something to do with my brain being wired in a way that makes adult male attributes erotically stimulating to me and not adult female attributes but when I've used that as an answer, people still aren't satisfied. I've often found that the people who ask that question are assuming that everyone is naturally heterosexual but, at some point, I just woke up one day and was like, "You know...I think I'm going to start being attracted to men..." which, obviously, has been the case for exactly 0% of people. This question is just a troll question IMO. If you asked someone 'Why is your favorite color red?" or "Why is your favorite movie genre horror?" you run into the same wall. Why does anyone enjoy any of the things they do? I understand the fascination in figuring out what makes people like certain things (I love learning what makes people tick) but expecting them to answer that themselves is kind of a fool's errand.

Having a born again mother and all the anti gay propaganda that was spewed on James Dobson radio, which played every day in our house, and not knowing anyone who was gay, I can certainly understand why the counselor went the ex gay route. I did too. Difference is I'm naturally difficult and I argued with the counselor about every so called cause of homosexuality. It's true what this man says, if you had any difficulty with either parent, then that's because you're "same-sex attracted" (was not allowed to say "gay", you're told you're straight but broken and that's why you think you're gay). If you had no problems with either parent, then you were molested, and if you say you weren't molested, then they counter with you just don't remember because it was so traumatic. Other oppose just because it's a preference that they just deem not comfortable. They feel like you are intruding into their own choice. Okay okay, small story: I came out to my parents (never have had a good relationship with them since they were in and out of the house every couple days, I was pretty much raised by my brother.) When I was in third grade as lesbian (just the start of my sexuality journey, now I'm an Omniromantic Asexual poly bigender idiot =P) and they got pretty mad at me and took me to a Catholic all-girls school (smart move mom lmao). Anyway, whenever they were home they would say that they'd love me no matter what and I showed them this video and GOD DAMNNN WERE THEY MAD.

+That Izzy at GameStop Keep this in mind. God does not damn anyone. God gives us what we want. If we want a right relationship with Him, wonderful! That's what He wants for us as well. But if we insist on locking Him out of our lives, denying His existence, cursing the world with His name, living in sexual perversion, He will give us that too. The path of rejecting God results in being separated from Him forever, and we do live forever. Heaven or hell. It's our choice. Jesus Christ paid the way for us to be forgiven for our sins. Choose Him, not sin.

the truth If you are gay or know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this .The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is, therefore, born with a predetermined attraction. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural expression of mammals & found commonplace in nature. Intelligent research in this area clearly explains this process. If you are truly interested in truth, based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay shows this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for yourself & others this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by goat herders, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

Scott has such empathy to realise, through all of that, that the counselor is simply a flawed human with his own pain.

Yes! He seems like such a genuine, intelligent, sweet guy. It’s a lot easier to become bitter and angry than to really see the person and be so empathetic, kudos to him. Doesn’t excuse hate, but we definitely need more of that understanding in the world.

@@forthfarean It's not bullshit. You're bull shit though. A big hate-drenched pile of it. Get help. If I remember the bible correctly, people who spend their lives hating and putting down others don't exactly get to see the "big man" and ol' JC when they kick the bucket.

@@hughman6614 Let me tell you, everyone sees shrinks as dumb, and everyone thinks they get the upper hand and are better than. Very VERY few people are, and this is not one of those cases sadly sir.

Smart kid. Glad he was able to cope with his sexuality in such a healthy manner. I hope future children have it easier than we did.

I know, it's truly remarkable. Not everyone can come out of such a traumatic experience in such a healthy way. Shame on his parents. I would feel honored to have him as my son.

One would certainly hope so. However, changes for the better can be fragile : look at the increasingly antagonistic stance taken against gay people in such countries as Brazil, Poland, Hungary, Russia etc etc. If we follow science and common sense we should be all right, except science has not always been followed in such cases as climate change or COVID, so we need to remain vigilant.
