I love when you read a book and it grows on you over time vs when you love a book, rate it well, and then don't really remember it 9 months later.

So good to see you, Mickey. Great, great year end list. I read The Awakening for the first time this year and really got wrapped up in it. Look forward to revisiting. I think you are the first person on booktube that has made me want to pick up The Neapolitan Series. ;) Hope to see a lot more of you on here this year.

I recently got Another Country from the library, and I plan to read it in February. Great to hear such praise for it! I've read The Fire Next Time and it ended up in my favorite books of 2016 video. I also really want to read Lolita and The New Jim Crow. Enjoyed the video :)

I need to read more Baldwin this year. He is a very powerful writer! Great list! Many of these are on my tbr.

This is a great list of books. Another Country was my favorite Baldwin book until I read If Beale Street Could Talk. Those books solidified Baldwin as one of my favorite authors. I have seen My Brilliant Friend on a lot of list. I love the way you describe the book and I think I can relate. I will add it to my tbr.

Firstly so glad to see you back! This list was EXCELLENT! Brilliant minds think alike. We have some favorite books in common. Another Country is my favorite Baldwin too. Love The Awakening is so great I read it for the first time in high school. Needless to say I didn't really get it until college. You were so right about being a little older to understand it better. Lolita is brilliantly written. I'll be starting My Brilliant Friend this weekend. IT's my book club read for this month. I'm excited. Your lighting was fine.

+Brown Girl Reading man I really hope you like My Brilliant Friend. I feel like I've talked it up so much for you; I hope you aren't let down. Lol. But it really has left an amazing impression on me and I was so invested in the characters. Man, I'm excited and afraid for you to read it lol. The ending of My Brilliant Friend is on my list of my favorite endings ever!

Relax I think you talked it up really well because before I saw your video I really wasn't so keen. Now I'm excited. I'm going to be cracking it open this weekend.

you're not late to the party at all haha, still haven't d my favourite ! gotcha on filming on the phone and having to do it again and again because there's always something wrong.... I've ordered Counter narratives and patiently waiting for my copy. thanks again for the rec although it was like ages ago but better late than never. Man! Another Country, that freaking book... can't even properly talk about it but loved it to pieces. I liked The year of magical thinking for the reason so many people disliked it. the way she rejects is also quite close to the way I would if I have to mourn a beloved one. I wish I had read it but still liked the audioguide. I read The Awakening in my first year or second year of college and loved it. I still remember it quite vividly although I read in English and my English four years ago wasn't that go. I need to re-read it but I only feel like I'm going to get more out of it. Lolita... after your rec I tried to read but I wasn't read AT ALL but this year is the year I feel like I am ready for it. also, you're voice seems a bit hoarse, I hope you're not sick. so good to see you back.

+Manika Wangata You definitely have to be in a certain headspace to read Lolita and there are some people that the book just isn't for. I really hope you enjoy Counternarratives as much as I did. I was really impressed by it. I'm actually recovering from a cold. I have a bit of a cough that's still lingering around. Thanks for the concern. Looking forward to seeing your favorites from 2016.

you should put a mirror behind the camera so you can *kinda* see more or less your face and at least you can check if it still is filming! these are great picks for 2016, gonna add them all to my goodreads "to read" list! Excited for these esp counternarratives, the vegetarian, and the Baldwin books...so most of them haha great video xoxo

+Daniela Zarate I had a little handheld mirror that I kept holding up to check things before I hit play, but then I would shift positions or something and everything would get messed up. Lol. I need to get a bigger mirror. I hope you enjoy the books when you get to them. I LOVE your channel. Really been enjoying your declutters and Project Pans. So nice to see you here in the bookish corner of KZfaq.

I loved The Fire Next Time too. I actually listened to the audiobook and Jesse L Martin reads it so that made me love it even more. I have definitely shied away from Lolita because I think I had some of those same thoughts that maybe it would try to make you like or sympathize with the guy. I don't know if I will pick it up but I will watch your video about it if you make one.

+It's On Page 47 Ginger!!! I was just thinking about you! How are you? I miss you! Do you still have Voxer on your phone? If you do I'm going to send you a voice message soon or you can let me know a better way to contact you. I don't really do well with audiobooks but that sounds like it's worth checking out. The Fire Next Time is really informing my reading of The Autobiography of Malcolm X as I read about his conversion to the Nation of Islam. Baldwin is such an amazing writer

Good to see you back! I've missed you too. I'm good how have you been? I'm still on voxer that's a good way to get ahold of me... We should do a buddy read this year I had such a blast last time. I've been reading the autobiography of Malcolm X for 2 years. I read a bit and then put it down for months. I only have about 80 pages left so I'll be finishing it soon. I should re-read Fire Next Time because I've forgotten some things.

Picked up Another Country to read this year since The Fire Next Time is one of my favorite books of all time. Also, The Awakening is amazing, read it as a college Sophomore and the feminism was strong in me from then on :)

+Teawithb0oks it's interesting because I've seen some reviews where people read The Awakening and they seem to judge Edna by today's standards and can't understand why she made the choice she did. If you like The Fire Next Time I think you'll really like Another Country. His fiction is so good!

I think we have a similar taste. I see you don't do any videos anymore. do you have other personal favourite lists on the internet? if not, please consider to dm me. I find it so hard to get recommendations because on youtube and in real life I find people don't have the same taste, expectations or don't see what I see in books.
