The acting is so natural, nothing is forced, and the chemistry between all the characters, particularly basil and Sybil is spot on, the way he says “ Dear” like he has known her and been married to her for yrs, all the other characters are perfect, that’s why it’s so iconic, it’s easily one of the best Sitcoms, of all time. They certainly found lightning in a bottle here, and the fact they only made 12 episodes is testament to that, the spark didn’t last long.

When Basil finally loses it at Sybil and puts her in her place (last scene), it was such a satisfying moment in the series. I agree with an other lot of people, who would have voted for the episode "The Germans, don't mention the war." But maybe those people like me, are from the mainland. After many decades I learned a much more about England, so I do understand a little bit more. But still, I still cry my eyes out laughing, when Basil does not want to talk about the war to the Germans... but he was so much occupied not talking about the war... that he could not help him self, doing it all the time (and even initially thought he got away with it). OMG, it was so brilliant when the German told Basil to stop talking about the war! And Basil answered: but you started it! The German said; no we did not. And Basil answered; yes you did, when you invaded Poland. Such a brilliant mix up from two perspectives.

I find it funny that Basil Fawlty was based on a real life hotelier in Torquay. John Cleese got the idea when he stayed at his hotel there.
