200k mile cambelt change complete. This is the second time I did this cambelt on my 07 GTi and I found this video much better than the scraps of information I could get 5 years ago. Thanks! What I will say is mistakes of the past did come back to haunt me. I over torqued my top idler and the thread fell out. I also used a defective bolt with a poor thread. So this year was spent reading furious internet debate about timesert Vs keensert Vs helicoil. I opted for helicoil as access was limited and I wanted to remove as little metal as possible for the new insert. Fingers crossed it holds for this application.

Damn this was a lot simpler than I thought it would be omg. I was scared to do this until watching this. And I’ve done timing on Hondas plenty of times, this looks very straight forward and simple. Good job on Volkswagen, and good job on you for demonstrating

Yea seems kind of straightforward compared to the timing chain. In the official manual it looks simple too but I had to drill the dreaded bolt of hell out since it stripped. I had to take apart the Adjuster and clean it so any metal shavings won't destroy it from within. Unfortunately there's a broken plastic washer where it holds down a spring inside the Adjuster. Same issue on the junkyard one I bought. I don't know what to do anymore as this washer is probably not sold as a part anywhere.

@@markkwong9512 Man you can do it - I watch and used it step by step and took about 5 hours (going slow to do it right the first time). This was my first ever timing belt change to. With all the right tools it was fun. Only problem was two little screws on the cover for the belt. Pain to access. TOTALLY (and I mean TOTALLY) worth saving $1500 of your hard earned $. Buy the real deal kit though. At least try it, if it fails tow to a mechanic.

Man, I got about 2lbs on the timing belt tensioner before the threads ripped right off the nut fucking up the stud threads. Also recived 1 different tensioner in my kit and only one of the idler pulleys (not the kit used in the video) . Nothing goes smooth ever and thats fine.

Poor quality water pump...
@Antto
@Antto Жыл бұрын
Not only poor quality water pump. Maybe due to long service life the axle seal from impeller to pulley starts to leak and it weeps out from that hole. If you see any coolant coming out of that hole, be sure to change the water pump.

May I pick your brain please FCP Euro? I have a 2015 BMW X5 X Drive 35i, twin turbo Inline 6 cyl. 3.0 AWD, I'm trying to help my mechanic out by asking other professionals such as yourselves. About 3 weeks ago I was driving when a message on my dash came over that said "Engine running to hot, Drive moderately" turns out it was a few things wrong with it. I had him replace the coolant pump, and thermostat. But its still running hot. The mechanic noticed that the coolant fan isn't turning on at idle. He can turn it on with his computer, and it will run with the AC on but at idle it wont come on by itself. He thought it was a censor, he replaced it. He thinks it a electrical problem somewhere. Can you guys please give me an idea where I can tell him to look? I've asked elsewhere but all I get is trolls saying "That's what I get for buying a BMW." etc. I got the vehicle for my job as I am self employed and I have been out of work for 3 weeks now. I really need help here please. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
