From the way the camera moves, to the composition of the shots, the editing, the audio mixing, the narration, ...I swear, this movie made me FEEL like I was on acid. I get the same disjointed, anxious, feeling from watching this movie as when I did acid. Like there's too many things going on at once. Background things taking up your attention. Oh god. I loved the movie, but it kind of made me sick.

I first saw this film on a whim when I was like 14. I loved it so much I went out and bought the book as read the whole thing in a day. I’ve been an avid Thompson fan since, and I’ve got a healthy collection of his works as well as some movie adaptations. Thompson and King were the two writers that I looked up to most, and who got me started on writing in my spare time which steadily improved my grades in English classes and eventually most other classes. It’s also what got me to start taking my schoolwork a little more seriously, and that lead me to my interest in history, and eventually my job. This movie is incredibly important to me, and I doubt I’ll ever see another that impacted me as much.

what did u like so much about the film at age 14, in particular?
@banditdeluxe13102 жыл бұрын
@@babywolfg Besides the performances of the actors , easily the thing that drew me in was the presentation of the material. Having the narrator speak directly to us as if an outward representation of the main character's inner thoughts is very hard to pull off, and I feel Thompson's writing uniquely lent itself to this style. It's loose and rambling and cryptic, it's like listening to an insane person who also knows more than you ever will. It really made me want to read the book, and after I did, I fell in love with his writing style and just kept reading more of his works.

And it's such a masterpiece. Not just the acting and the crazy shit going on. But the way the movie is built up. The songs used, the hollow way the voice over sounds, the whole vibe. It's brilliant. And just like with the Big Lebowski, it doesn't matter how many times you see it. You always pick up on some new thing/joke that you missed before. This is a FREAKING , TRIPPY,Hippie, GROOVY whacked out, hilarious movie.. One thing though the PSYCHEDELIC GROOVY imagery ALWAYS GIVES ME a headache... Great freaking movie though, I've seen it several times and I always have a good chuckle...High on drugs in Las Vegas .. H3LL could NOT be as bad as this scenario.. Sucks that the great Hunter S. Thompson aka GONZO passed away.. Worst yet, by his on hand like Robin Williams.. May they both rest in peace eternally..

I remember on one of my first shroom trips, we saw this movie and del Toro's fat belly started coming out of the tv screen. Being quite the novice in psychedelic traveling, i called to my friends "don't you guys see that!? His belly is coming out of the tv!!" At that moment i thought we all saw exactly the same thing.

Terry Gilliam created a masterpiece and Depp and Del Toro tore the screen to pieces.

I don't know exactly how or why, but this scene somehow triggers memories I had in a previous life.

For me, this movie was the movie when Johnny Depp went from pretty cool actor to fucking awesome actor. Benicio Del Toro is fantastic too
