I open my electric bill for this past month LIVE on camera, finding out what my electric bill comes to at the same time that you do! 300mpg.org/2023/03/15/feb-202...

For anyone noticing that there's some solar panels in the shade to the left of the garage - that's my solar trailer. I'm planning to have that parked in my backyard this summer, but I need to take down two dead Ash trees first. Then I can get the trailer rigged up as part of my grid-tie system AND charge some Generac batteries!

Excellent result, getting through another winter, even with some shade from a tree that is not on your property. ☮️

Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about my neighbors trees, but using micro-inverters DOES help, as only the shaded panels drop power, instead of the whole array.

Interesting seeing your bill details. I am just north of you in Green Bay. WPS is our utility and they settle every month on the excess production (i don't get to carry it over to the next month), and (I pay 12 cents per KWH usage and get 3 cents per KWH). I don't have a monthly excess of production only in December and January. Already had over 200 KWH excess on my March 13th bill. (973 KWH produced and 720 KWH used).

Nice production! What's the faceplate power rating of your system? Mine is 5400 watts on the AC side.

@@BenjaminNelsonX I have 33 (mostly 290 watt panels) for a total of 9570 watts worth of panels but i use 250 watt micro inverters so max of 8250 watts capability. I have 19 at 45 deg. of which 7 are on a tracker (which is disabled for winter because not enough movement is needed with low sun). 6 mounted vertical (my best performers by far in winter as snow never builds on them). and last 8 panels on my shop roof at ~23..5 degrees.

miste can i go back to your electric car, why you configure your battery and battery charger in 72V While your motor is 12 vdc it will not be better if configured in series so 12 so you have more energy so maybe more autonomy...
@BenjaminNelsonX
@BenjaminNelsonX Жыл бұрын
@@bedewimebrouk Are you talking about the old Geo Metro? The motor was never 12V. It was used equipment pulled out of a forklift. That motor would have been designed for either 36 or 48V. On a brushed DC motor, speed is proportional to voltage. Using higher voltage makes the motor spin faster. Whether configuring batteries in series or parallel, it's the same total amount of energy. Wiring in series creates higher voltage. That's higher top speed on a DC motor, but higher voltage also means lower current for the same power. That means being able to use thinner, less expensive, lighter weight cables. Current also tends to be more of the limiting factor on power electronics. In general, higher voltage is the way to go.

The new grid connected systems that can also do off-grid is the way to go these days. Imo..

Those are usually called "Hybrid" systems. Batteries are expensive, but can be priceless in an emergency situation. On my system, grid-tie only with micro-inverters was an affordable way to go and made it easy for DIY install. I'll be adding some AC-coupled budget batteries in the future.

@@BenjaminNelsonX I have a small 800w PV array with too much tree blockage. On sunny days I can use my little back-up system to run small loads (120vac) in my home, and still keep my 6.3 kwh battery bank charged up. When the grid fails around here, it's not likely to be sunny! The back-up is for the freezer and to run the 4 sump pumps, (and this PC) when the grid fails. Melting snow water is coming in today, and getting pumped out, using the grid. But, in case the grid goes off, back-up will likely last 2 or 3 days. Depending on the rate of water coming into the basement and any sunshine. :)

Does your Prius have a plug-in mod? I spy something under the taillight that looks like a plug cover.
@BenjaminNelsonX
@BenjaminNelsonX Жыл бұрын
Our Prius originally had an aftermarket Hymotion L5 add-on plug-in kit. Unfortunately, it no longer works, and the company that made it is out of business. I pulled out the kit and still have the lithium cells from it. I used a few of them in my daughter’s electric go-kart. The Prius is a 2004. We now have a 2012 Chevy Volt, which is a really what I wanted, but didn’t exist at the time. The Prius charged from the wall by plugging in a 120v extension cord from an outlet to the jack on the car’s back bumper.

I don’t. If you live somewhere dry and dusty, cleaning them occasionally would make sense.

Presumably the off-peak power on winter nights has come from nearby wind farms. 🤔

You're lucky that you can have solar AND time of use billing. I had it for a while but after installing solar, no more time of use allowed.
