Ive been skimming through all of your videos on this project, but i cant seem to find thr info: what ended up happening with the nissan leaf motor that youre still looking at other motor options?
@DaveElectricКүн бұрын
You don't need a shunt. You can use a hall effect current sensor that just clips over one of the battery cables.

I doubt you were pulling 57 amps and 100+ amps there. I think you mean up to 1 amp at 120v. 8 amps 120v is just about 1kw
@BenjaminNelsonX2 күн бұрын
On the 12V DC side of things it's very high current, that's why thick, short, power cables are needed. 10A at 120VAC is 1200 watts, but the same 1200 watts at only 12VDC is 100A!

Good luck.. Pretty complicated project. But I'm sure you can pull it off

Okay give us numbers?? How much did you spend, break it down.

I'll do that after I pay for the parts etc, and actually get it all together!

Thanks for sharing Beth. And your daughter is so cute. I know this was a long time ago. I have been watching my nest all day because I don’t have a camera. I have four

Where did you get that motor bracket?
@BenjaminNelsonX3 күн бұрын
It was a very large L-bracket from the hardware store. I simply drilled holes in it to mount the motor.

How much and how much mileage?

Yeah, I just had mine fly off. Will they come back to that nest all four of them

So - EV novice here looking to build an electric houseboat. Rather than converting AC to DC so the inverter can just change it back to AC, is there any way to skip that step? My battery bank at 48vdc will invert to 240v. Is it the 3-phase-ness that requires the OEM inverter?

How do you plan to reattach the part you cut off?
@BenjaminNelsonX6 күн бұрын
It was just a very small stripped bolt. That will be replaced.

Excellent progress, thanks for sharing. At 1:55 I am baffled as to why you bought a hydraulic lift, then removed it and used ordinary furniture dollys instead?
@BenjaminNelsonX4 күн бұрын
The hydraulic table supports the middle of the battery. It prevents the battery from tilting while lowering it. It also takes the weight off the jacks on the ends, when readjusting them such as to add or remove wood blocks since the car is up so high. The hydraulic cart also only has steering wheels on one end. The furniture dollies have all wheels that swivel, making it much easier to rotate the battery to get it out from under the car.
@ramalho6 күн бұрын
Cool time lapse. In reality, how long did it actually take to remove the battery?
@BenjaminNelsonX5 күн бұрын
Probably half an hour. There’s a lot of bolts to come out. That goes pretty quickly, but it’s a lot of crawling around under the car. For actually LOWERING the battery, it was a matter of doing it slowly and surely. Having multiple jacks and a second person makes it much easier. It’s also important to keep the battery level. Lastly, the first movement of the battery should be to drop it a couple of inches relatively quickly. This disconnects the coolant lines and lets the built-in shut off valve activate to help keep coolant from leaking everywhere.

Looking forward to your project. I too bought a "bricked" EV... a Fiat 500e... and had quite an adventure getting it on the tow trailer (also not running). I ended up dropping the battery (little easier on a smaller car like the 500) and individually recharging the battery modules and was able to bring the car back to life. Good luck!

Hey Ben, how's it going? My first nit to pick is that into is one word and that in to makes no sense. That being said... I don't see the need for the come along. You are looking ripped. But I digress... I'm sure you can and will fix it! If anyone can it's you. You are my personal electric vehicle Jesus. (Not to be sacrilegious...) Lemme know if you need someone to hold the flashlight while you work, I'm not of much value beyond that.
@BenjaminNelsonX7 күн бұрын
On a serious note, the car didn’t run at all. It had to be jump-started just to put it in neutral. The car weighs almost 3 tons. It was a slow process to winch it on to the trailer! No idea how I would have moved the car without the come-along!
