Jay did everything right. He trained smart so he remained for the most part injury free. He was smart with his money and his investments. He made a perfect transition to retirement. A true inspiration as to how to do it right and intelligently. All while be the most down to earth, coolest person to talk to.

Through the years I learned that if you want to succeed in any sport, be it fighting, bodybuilding or something else, you will definitely have to watch what you eat. Training is important but there are no real gains without proper diet. I realized that after I started following my first meal plan. I found it on Next Level Diet iirc. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 calories in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.

If youre not careful. This can wreck havoc on you mentally. When i was skinny and came across this idea and bodybuilding, I was hooked. But it started getting out of hand. It became an eating disorder. ALL i cared about was eating and lifting. Lifting was the fun part. But the eating is all day every day and if a few too many hours goes by where i dont get my "high protein meal" i would begin to get frustrated. Even if i was out with family and friends, My food came first. I wasnt soaking up the special moments in life as much because im thinking about my next meal or whatever and it eventually sabotaged my last relationship because i would let my frustrations out on others because in my mind i was "shrinking" or "losing gains". Bodybuilding and fitness can be very healthy. But its a slippery slope. Dont let it take over your mind.

Progress in bodybuilding is not the hour in the gym, it’s the 23 hours you’re not in the gym that will make the difference between dreams becoming reality or dreams staying dreams
@johnre5342
@johnre5342 2 жыл бұрын
Your correct but it is much more than an hour in the gym for guys at this level.
@trn1446
@trn1446 2 жыл бұрын
If you are not a beginner usually you would expend more than just an hour at the gym, unless you are really effective with your time, and really consistent with your rest per set. If you are average in these things expect to be 1:30hs or 2hs in the gym, if following an average routine. Bodybuilders are usually a loooooooooooot of time at the gym. We are talking about, for example, Arnold, who said he used to workout 5-6 hours a day in his prime.
@johnre5342
@johnre5342 2 жыл бұрын
@@trn1446 Arnold also had day and night sessions. His routine was legs and abs at night a few times a week while also in the gym in the morning or afternoon.

Arnold had nowhere near the knowledge the guys in the 90’s had and that’s why they were so much bigger please understand working out for more than 60 mins will do nothing for you. Go to the gym workout hard and focused with high intensity and you are done in 60 mins easy and will make more progress

Jay is one of the best Mr. Os ever. A true ambassador for the sport. Compared to someone like Phil Heath. Phil should have taken notes, he fkd up his legacy by being stand-offish. May have more titles but will never be embraced by the bbing community like Jay.

i don't know lots of strongmen and power lifters are fat with a gut. They use roids and look nothing like a body builder. The diet and training within body building parameters is more important. Roids are just to get bigger beyond the genetic limit. While cutting it allows you to hang on to more mass.
