🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
🔹Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release 🔹
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
🔹 Informing, Educating and Inspiring 🔹
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
🔹 Martin Tyner 🔹
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

cute as all get out! l've been watching the peregrine falcon nest cams a couple of years now. they're great! fave would be Great Spirit Bluff. the parents often feed the young birds they catch. they have enemies such as owls; l sort of forgot which.. last summer the mom kept watch each night. they are madly hungry all the time it seems and they also seem to get big very fast. 1st time l've seen young kestrels!

I had to laugh. Martin said, "As you can see these don't make good pets." Response: As you can HEAR these don't make good pets. That competition, the demand for food, CONSTANTLY. I COULD UNDERSTAND why they get kicked out of the nest. I COULD ALSO UNDERSTAND the NEED TO GET FOOD to SURVIVE. I LUVVV THEIR DRIVE TO LIVE!!! GOOD JOB, MARTIN!!!

I really love watching kestrel chicks in the nest. Yes, they are really aggressive for the food at feeding time and I've watched them rip many mice to shreds while fighting over them. But, I've also noticed they're generally not too aggressive towards each other. I don't believe I've ever seen an instance of siblicide , like you do occasionally see with other types of birds of prey.

The mother kestrels in England feed their chicks in turns, everyone getyomg a share. At least that is what I saw on Robert Fuller's channel. So no siblicide. However the youngest and weakest chick sometimes does not make it to fledging.

Hi Peter, thanks for your interest and that is a good question! It is mostly instinctual and also a judgment call by Martin. Nebu Losa Those are not birds tho are they? They arent taught how to fly either. They just DO IT lol. It's in their DNA, etc etc. They don't perch on a tree while mom is like ok watch while i catch this mouse. Nope, they just catch the damn mouse LOL. Instinct

+Nebu Losa actually i would use your thought particularly about flying, generally young birds needs assistance from their parents to master flying

dedfed321 Was that question really for me? I'm not too familiar with birds. I do know that they train a lot on the nest before they try to fly. They keep flapping their wings until they can lift themselves off the nest. I don't know whether their parents assist them with flying, but they certainly help them find food in the first weeks/months after they leave the nest.

Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah thank u for the response... bt i live in india... in india we dont get mice or wild bird food... instead what can i feed for a baby? , can i feed chicken and fish?

That would depend on the region and exact type of baby. Best move is to find a local wildlife group for assistance.

Martin prefers to feed them a natural diet - food they would likely be hunting in the wild. They need the whole animals, not just meat.
