A rainy Tuesday afternoon stream puts us in the perfect mindset to chum the waters with some dangerous damage cards. With Piranhas and Phoneutria, cards in hand matter more than ever. Can we use card advantage to link Blood in the Waters for fast points and a cheeky Jinteki flatline?

Hot Take Alert: The thing that keeps ubiquitous breakers in check are ultra powerful faction specific ice. Pre-rotation Buzzsaw was kept in check by the likes of DNA Tracker and Fairchild 3.0. Those cards gave real incentive to run other decoders that don’t lose the game on a face check, cost 6+c to break without turbine, and still cost 5c with turbine. Currently every playable code gate has 4 or less strength or an easy alt solution, when the worst case scenario is spending 5c to fully break any ice there is no reason buzzsaw won’t rule supreme. What we need is a 6+str code gate that has *real* costs associated with face checking. I don’t want DNA Tracker back as much as the next guy but something like it will give a soft answer to the unibreaker problem.

Both Buzzsaw and cleaver are just really awkward design. Curupira is way more interesting. Turbine is also not great. Takobi otoh is a great card, it forces interaction to be good and allows cointerplay. The 3str breakers also squish the design space massively on low strength ice. How are maskrivowka and ice wall the same break point for cleaver, while it's a 4c difference for crims best in faction fracter.

I hear you, but also I worry that if DNA Tracker and Fairchild 3.0 existed today, a Runner might more than ever need an easy way to break them for pennies in the late game, and so we'd see an equal amount of Turbine if not more. And even in the early game, it's not like Unity breaks DNA Tracker in any sort of reasonable way.

It's sort of a combination effect. Turbine being 1 memory is pretty insane. Buzzsaw being only 1 inf is also gross. I've been handling this a bit in weyland via Archer + Corporat Troubleshooter to open a scoring window. This often lets me hit turbine + 1 other program of choice.

That's a great idea. A Troubleshot Archer would definitely help take out some my fixed-strength breaker frustration.

A small thing: do still count your cards while doing a pile shuffle! The exact wrong number of cards got stuck in my box to some extra sleeves and i accidentally held 12 agenda points back that game! The pile shuffle still fell exactly right but it was still wrong haha

Accidentally leaving an even piles worth of cards in your deckbox is super unfortunate. I guess you just have to count the pile height, not the exact number of cards.
