Thank you for the video Mike. I think your proposed set up for handling round bales; being a temporary TMR gap set up is working fine until the farm is able to obtain a TMR mixer.

Hey Mike just a little advice if you plan on putting baleage in your Tmr once you get one get a round baler with a precutter. A vertical Tmr will process long hay but it will wear out significantly faster.

Whatever works best for, go with it. Seems like a pretty good system for you. I think probably the same way we would do it too essentially. At least until we can find a better way.

A wet warm winter and spring wil require some gravel near the barn area leding to the barn door and the unrolling area,
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
There is a construction outfit up the road that I already spoke to about getting some of the gravel

Great Video Mike, your shed systems remind me of my dads system in the 1960's BUT at that time Cows were 100% grass fed, if you want i can share some NZ You Tube Channels, Please don't hate me!

Mike I might suggest that you try a rissler unwrapping cart we have had one for at least eighteen years and it is still going and I don't know how we ever got along without it
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
I mentioned the Rissler cart at the end of the video and why it wont work. It would be fine going down the front of the cows but I wouldn't be able to get it from one side to the other

Hey Mike, just thinking out of the box, switch the youngstock to the old barn and the milking cows to the heiferbarn make some freestall of it and find a used milkingparlor, there comes a time youre dad will take a step back so prepare for that moment, that is what is comming to my mind but like i sad just some thinking no offense,thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer

Hey Mike love your videos. What is the name brand name of your bale unroller. Would like to get one
@mikep78109 күн бұрын
Thank you Dennis. That is a worksaver bale unroller.
@jameschapman690811 күн бұрын
I wondered if you could unroll them in the Manger. Probably isn't enough room and they're to heavy to move by hand. Looks like you need to put down some concrete in front of the door. ( in your spare time lol)
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
You probably could but getting the bale over to the other side would be an issue plus what do you do with the roll when you unroll it to the other end
@jameschapman690810 күн бұрын
I thought maybe turn it around and roll it back the other way. Or build a 100 cow freestyle with a center feed alley.

Can you just spear the bale, and save the time of switching from the hugger to the unroller? Just a thought from a lazy guy.😯
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
You could but could knock over the pile. Most of the time the hugger is on the loader anyway so its not a big deal

Hi Mike this is Donnie Thebeau 😅 I used to be a former myself whenever I was younger I never deal with round bales of hay I used to use the square Vols what is more easier to use on cattle the round bail or the square Bell I have always used square bales because it's easier to pick up
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
Hi Donnie. We still have square bales. That's still the easiest to feed in our barn. Getting the round baler has allowed us to get the hay baled up quicker and also allowed us to go to baleage
@jeffyurek434211 күн бұрын
I know it’s easy for me to say but would a big square baler have worked better.
@mikep781011 күн бұрын
They both have their advantages but I like the decision we made to go with a round baler
