Sisters of Battle are not female space Marines, nor are they really good analogues. But I argue, that's the point. They're Nuns with Guns, mostly normal women empowered by fayth and some gadgets and gizmos. They're not trying to be female Space Marines, they don't want to be, that's not their thing. Why be 'the girl version' when you can be your own thing? It's even in their name, Adepta Soritas. Their femininity goes beyond mere pandering, it's a plot point, they exist because of a poorly worded clause in the Eclesiarchy codex.

They wear power armor. Means probably one sister costs as much as 50 army soldiers to maintain. Not Space Marine Power Level, but Powerlevel + their training from a very young age, meaning a canoness with life enhancing technology may fight 300+ years. That is! some skill at killing you must have then + their faith.

IF gw is gonna through with this...change in lore for the custodes, then I rather that it stops there at female custodes and that being the end of it. why? because I get it that custodes and space marines are not the same augmented, transhuman super soldiers/warriors of the god-emperor. In fact, somewhere in the lore of space marine creation has implied that this was deliberate by the E-man himself to prevent space marines from any getting bright ideas of engineering/creating a master race of astartes to slowly but surely replace the homo sapiens by breeding with one another. rendering us regular humans obsolete. whereas one is comparably a mass-produced make derived from the DNA template and geneseed stock from demigod SONS of the emperor, meaning that space marine geneseed is incompatible with women. the adeptus custodes by contrast have no geneseed and ergo no artificial organs implanted in their bodies that make them. the emperor's own words sums up this "Each one of the Ten Thousand represents genetic lore acquired over many lifetimes. And part of the casualties from the recruitment process is organ rejection. Obviously, we are able to transplant organs from matching donors who may or may not be the same sex, however factor sex characteristics in addition to the complexity of new cloned organs of questionable origin. It adds a variable that from the view of the administration offers no discernable benefit while increasing the potential for lost recruits. Hm. You may be a bit surprised, there could be a reasonably small market demand for this. My daughter does enjoy these model range and dose like painting them. I don't think it's that dumb. She currently prefers beasts/dragons but last time we were in a GW store she chose a female vampire character from the AoS range. Interestingly female representation sometimes seem stronger for non-human factions I'm with @majorkill in this one. I don't have a problem with a peppering of extraordinary females being able to reach the rank of custodian. I doubt they'd make it a 50:50 or even large spread. They'll release a few token models here and there.

IF gw is going to through with this...change in lore for the custodes, then I rather that it stops there at female custodes and that being the end of it. why? because I get it that custodes and space marines are not the same augmented, transhuman super soldiers/warriors of the god-emperor. Besides lets face it the majority of players are not Custodes, there's Majorkill and Henry Cavill and well the rest can probably be counted on one hand. One side of me says it makes no difference to the game, the other side says okay head swapped models and it still makes no difference. If every model became female overnight then the game would still play the same. Yes it would have a MASSIVE impact on the lore....but the lore is not the game and GW will change the lore in a heartbeat if they felt it would sell more models as that's all they care about. Selling models and making profits. If this backfires then it will either be retconned or quietly dropped. If custodes sales suddenly rocket expect more female units like Grey Knights first then Astartes but I doubt it will, the people shouting for this are not the people who actually buy which is why they dipped their toe in the water with the Custodes, not the Astartes/primaris. EDIT: Just to clarify I have some head-swapped Primaris to make them female BUT under no circumstances do I think they could be canon. I did it for my showpiece collection just to see if people notice.
