I have one of these in a five-string, active Deluxe USA version. Really good sounding. I think Fender’s mistake with the Dimension line is that the pickups are non-standard shape/size so replacing them is virtually impossible.

One reason I love this show is all the different basses I get to see. Plus the education I get. Has helped me a lot with working on my two....a 2019 Ibanez and a 1968 Silverstone which I love trying to get strings for...heh

I have a mexican deluxe version of one of these that is active, I absolutely love it, necks great, pickups sound awesome, and the body looks great and rests really great as well, also love having that obscure fender that isnt a p or j clout

Wow. Hadn't seen one of these in the wild. Have the Squire branded Dimension that has a single bridge pickup (active). Was a Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of the Day Sale item about 7 years ago. It makes me happy. Nice tone but heavy AF. For a Squire, had pretty damn good fret ends.

Fender discontinued the model after a short run. They seem to be going up in price on the used market.
@lockedowng2 жыл бұрын
This was fender going after musicman. They had an unspoken agreement to not rip each other off. When fender broke that, it led to the EBMM cutlass bass and guitar as well as the caprice bass (p/j). All but the cutlass guitar failed to sell despite being great instruments.

Hey Dave, thanks for the shout-out to BC, which got Gooched by the Mother of All Pineapple Expresses.
@zhiguli82 жыл бұрын
They needed to put a pickup size (EMG or Bart size also used by Nordstrand, Delano, Aguilar, etc.) in there that could be replaced if you didn't like the pickups. They probably thought the stingray pickup size would've been too much of giveaway as to what they were trying to emulate.

@@MrClassicmetal I wish! I have seen that bass selling for about $1000 to $2200, of course condition and model is probably the reason for the wide price range. But $100,000, I doubt that.

Is it me, or didn’t that design spawn from the old Roscoe Beck model? Seems to me that the Roscoe had a pair of dual single coils … like a pair of jazz bass pups smashed together and then coil tapped… then it had a few variations on the name, like dimension and modern player, etc. also, the pick guard is almost exactly like a similar Gibson bass design. Cool basses though, I like the concept. It does however resemble the G&L layouts (a Leo design) so it’s fender copying fender : / I tried to order the five string a few years back, but the absolutely refused to produce a fretless fingerboard in either lined or unlined. Some day when I have money to blow, I’ll pick one of these up, because I do like them. In the meantime my squier jazz 5 bastards will continue to rock the house.
@artp17352 жыл бұрын
Very similiar to a Roscoe Beck..Roscoe beck is a better build all around the Dimension body is not as comfy as Roscoe Beck. Pickup routes are not deep enough on the Dimension to get lower actions the pickups bottom out, Bridge saddles bottom out specially on lower strings E A B on the 5 string you have to file grooves in the saddles to get a good action, but a very good bass...I hate the Bridge, the Roscoe Beck Bridge is a much better bridge bit tedious to adjust but is a very dynamic clean sounding bridge, Dimension has a chunk of dull metal with no real way to adjust anything but up and down.

Thank you for all of the great videos! So helpful! I'm working on my American Standard P-Bass. I tune this bass to D standard (DGCF). I am running La Bella flats 52-110. I put in a Graphtech TusqXL nut, and I sanded the back down a bit (sides too). Fits perfect, but I think my D and G string are still sitting a little high in the nut. The C and F string pass the 3rd fret test :) Question: What tool / technique do I use to file the nut slot down a tiny bit? Should the string sit half of it's diameter into the slot?

At what point do you determine the bass or guitar needs a shim. When you reach the limit of raising the saddles ?
@chadwaller60722 жыл бұрын
I answered my own question.
@RyRyTheBassGuy2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you'll also have enough travel, but too much screw sticking out. No need to cut your palm if you can shim the neck (also easier than cutting down the screws).

@Wayne Green It's not the angle of each saddle that makes the arc/radius at the bridge- It's the relative height of each "horizontal" saddle. _ - - _ and not /--\, if you see what I mean. Think of each saddle as a vertical block. Graphics (C) 2021 Norman Ltd.
