it needs the huge wheels since its a crossover and if they went smaller then made the tyres bigger to compensate it wouldnt look "sporty". its a shame they just put massive wheels and a lift kit on a gtc4 lusso instead of making a proper suv

Many thanks for sharing this Part 4 Lotus Emira YT video Harry. I've really enjoyed the whole journey, especially the wonderful views in Part 2, the factory visits to Pagani & now Ferrari (both very interesting, even though the featured new models are way out of my league!) in Parts 3 & 4, which gave me a fascinating insight into the philosophies & technical innovations that both manufacturers are producing for their Utopia & Purosangue cars. The Lotus must be fully run in by now, so hope you get to enjoy the cars performance on the way back!

Hitting a pothole with those low profile tires where I live would result in a puncture. Too many fiddly electronics for my liking. It looks like you’d have to get to a sub menu for some operations in that middle button. Personally I prefer dials and knobs as they are less distracting. Still looks pretty though.

Love the description of how it smooths out potholes. Decades ago, inspired by those low riders with adjustable suspension hight, I had an idea for exactly thus type of system to smooth out speed bumps. Not because I want to go fast over them, but because some are so vicious that you have to do about 3 mph or else wreck your rubber bushes. I am amazed how many people drive over the vicious ones at 20 mph or more. Wouldn't like their repair bills.

A thought just occurred to me. It was Lotus who were developing hydraulic active suspension systems about 35 years ago with rams that did away with anti-roll bars. So it's sort of fitting that Harry talked about Ferrari's active suspension system after turning up in a Lotus! Older folk such as me will of course remember LJK Setright's disdain for suspension engineering that included the use of anti-roll bars, seeing them as crude torsion bars linking the sides together that prevented them from being truly independent.
@geoffsaunders4960
@geoffsaunders4960 Жыл бұрын
Wasn't LJK wonderful. I always wondered whether he kept Bristol afloat. His tutorials on suspension were so good, often crying out that manufacturers ignored the importance of the tyre sidewall with the much lower aspect ratios screwing the ride.

Ram powered Active Suspension complete with a stability-agility computer system driven 4WS system, was a feature of the 1993 Toyota Soarer UZZ32. This is not to be confused with the UZZ31 Soarer that was fitted with multi height air suspension and multi-mode computer driven dampers. The poverty pack of the Soarer, the UZZ30 with conventional springs and dampers, and sans the touch screen electronics (crt touchscteen) was sold in the US as the Lexus SC400. In testing the grand lux UZZ31, despite its embarrassingly modest tyres, could pull steady state G's higher than its contemporary, the factory special Ferrari F-40 hypercar Approximately 1,600 UZZ32's were made, and when new sold for twice the price of a high end S-Class Mercedes.

Hydraulic ram system, as applied to the Citroën Xantia Activa in 1995, was a natural extension of that car's suspension, so it's not as out-of-reach an idea as some make out. Physically speaking, if you saw an Activa next to a regular Xantia you'd notice they had many subtle differences - apart, you'd swear they were identical! My dad ran a Citroën service dealer at the time, and their sales partner garage had an Activa - it's right up with my favourite Citroëns of all time.

Rear proportions look off to me… maybe it looks better in real life… Maybe if they stretched the rear 3/4 a little more it’d look better, also provide a little more rear passenger room too, the legroom looks a bit tight. Just my opinion, probably looks great in the metal.

That suspension leveling thingy for counteracting cornering force seems similar in effect to the Land Rover (BMW era) Discovery II Td5 I bought in 1999. I think it's marketing name was HCE. I recall that, for a very heavy and tall car, it made the car very capable of taking corners that seemed way beyond expectations.

I wonder if most buyers just want the badge and would actually prefer a 2WD hybrid V6 powertrain, or a pure EV / 3cyl diesel if Ferrari offered that! Actually daily-driving this vehicle would incur some serious costs - it's a 2-tonne 4WD n/a V12 with presumably bespoke supercar tyres. They staggered the wheel sizes by one inch just to maximise tyre revenue. ;)

@AB-80X
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
There is no transfer case. It's not a full time 4wd system. It's a front assisted rwd car like a Lusso and FF. The front wheels are driven by a separate two speed gearbox on the front axle.

Looks more like an evolution of a GTC4 Lusso, as long as its got a V12 and not a Twin Turbo V8 like everyone else it should remain special... 9:26 Ive always wondered if some a motorized screw like that would be possible and this looks like real innovation. But it needs all the sensors and programms to run right, probably also some mild- hybrid 48V system to power this all. When the cars goes over a short pothole it should keep the wheel up to not fall in. I hope Harry gets one in for testing on his " special bumpy road" :)

Great first close look at the Ferrari Purosangue Harry. One little detail you got wrong is that the accessory belt drive and parts like water pump, Alternator, A/C compressor , power steering pump tensioner pullies etc... they are on the front of the engine at the radiator or front bumper of the car not right up against the firewall like you said. I have see the engine and 3-D color views of how it sits in the car and the accessory drive parts above the front gearbox are at the front of the engine, not against the firewall like a SAAB 900.
