This is the new Ferrari SF90 and it has a full 1000hp. That's 986bhp to non-metric old-school brake horsepower fans but whichever way you cut it, it's a shed load of power.
It has a lot of firsts for Ferrari. the SF90 is Ferrari's first plug-in hybrid. It is its first four-wheel drive mid-engined supercar. It's also it's first road car with this amount of power, which sticks it right into hypercar territory, if you make such distinctions.
It comes in two variants, standard (such as it is) and with an Assetto Fiorano package - lighter and keener, with passive Multimatic dampers, titanium springs and exhaust, and more aero. This car has that package, more on which in a moment.
Straight-line performance is spectacular. This is a car that can do 0-62mph (0-100kph) in just 2.5 seconds and has a top speed of 211mph. Such frantic acceleration from rest is made possible by the fact it's 4wd. It has two electric motors on the front axle and another between the engine and gearbox, assisting the 4.0-litre twin turbocharged 90-degree V8 engine that sits behind the occupants.
But as well as being able to be driven a combination of combustion and electricity, this PHEV Ferrari can naturally be driven on battery power alone - in which case it becomes a front-wheel drive, zero emissions vehicle. Which is pretty amusing.
All of this gubbins does mean, though, that the SF90 is relatively heavy, at 1570kg (dry) with every lightweight option, for which you can figure it's nearly 1700kg at the kerb.
And, well, it's quite a lot of money. The base price is £375,000, to which you can add £40,000 for the Assetto Fiorano package, and it doesn't end there. This version with options costs, well, we'll let you find out in the video.

I remember when video reviews of hypercars involved emotions, facial expressions and the perception that the reviewer wanted the viewer to at least partially feel what it was like to drive and experience rather than in this case just listen to the equivalent of Siri reading a technical datasheet PDF

Modern day Ferraris sound like Hoover's. Coming home from work a few weeks ago a f430 came past me and my first instinct was to put the window down to listen. What a sound!! A proper ferrari

I fear the golden age of the car has passed, while there will still be nuggets of brilliance (like the GMA T.50), tech and outright performance have come to predominate over beauty and sound and an analogue driving experience. If given the choice I would take a 458 over and SF90, and a manual F430 over either.

Looking at Tesla and the new EV market, this is old school since it has still an ICE engine at least. I'm saving all that i have to buy a 458 on the next 2 years both because i love that car both as investment. Anyway (IMO) this SF 90 is quite ugly, it misses the purity and class of the typical Ferrari. And it's too heavy for my tastes. Greetings from Italy :)

I think I know the reason for the "meh" reception to the SF90; it's chasing numbers and marketing points instead of what Ferrari traditionally stood for, which is the driving experience. The 812 only does a 7:27 on the Nurburgring but people still love it, often claiming it's the best Ferrari you can buy today. The problem with chasing numbers is that there's always something with a bigger number just around the corner.

The problem with this era of new car with uge numbers is that we don't even have any notion of scales anymore... Remember wen was shocked by the 200 bhp of a civic type r, 305 bhp of a focus rs or the 510 bhp of a 430 scud and of course the incredible veyron with its 1000 bhp.

Compare the performance and price to the LaFerrari and it's a bit of a "bargain". The back kind of grows on you. I'd prefer the front all one colour myself

A 1000hp Ferrari should make me excited to want to see, but somehow this car doesn’t. I think looking a mess doesn’t help. Ferrari and most other modern cars just don’t seem to do it for me anymore even though they are very capable.

That's correct. LaFerrari is the last hypercar Ferrari have made and it's due to be replaced. But the performance of the SF90 is that of a hypercar on paper

I think the SF90 with the Assetto Fiorano package looks good but not great. The basic SF90's rear pop up rear spoiler looks awkward.

Personally, I think it is a beautiful car except for the front hood area. To me, it looks like a hammerhead shark especially when the area is outlined in a different color as in this video. Unfortunately, I can't afford one, so I don't have the problem of deciding whether or not to purchase one.

It looks a lot better in person. I used to think it was terrible too from seeing it online but surprisingly it works in person. Way better than the tributo for me at least.

Love Ferrari, but…. this is the first new one in a long time for me that I have ‘zero want’ factor for. Hopefully the 296 changes that (knowing Ferrari have to go hybrid to continue to sell cars in many parts of the world)

Waaayyy too heavy and wide for my taste. I hate the haptics too. And, for just a little more than the price of nicely loaded SF90, I instead bought a low mile F430 6 speed manual and a fully loaded STO. I find both the F8 and the SF 90 to be equally disappointing. At least the 812GTS is indeed a truly nice car. Just my personal humble opinion of course.

I know looks are subjective but seems to lack a bit of the drama of the previous Hypercars such as Enzo and F50 but no doubting the engineering. Had to laugh at Goodwood FoS back in the summer when I guy went up to the demonstration driver sat in the SF90 and said this is the new 296GTB. Driver was very polite and said no but the guy then continued, yes but they have a new hybrid Ferrari that is the latest...😂

Personally I don't think it does . The 918 along with the carrera gt are timeless classics . This is just another ferrari . Ferrari have lost their 'magic'

Not sure I would call this a hypercar. It's not limited. It has the same horse power as a Telsa Plaid. It's "only" about half a million GBP. What do you classify a hypercar as?

Not limited? Try to order a new one🤣. Look at how much over sticker the few for sale are trading at. The Plaid isn’t anywhere in the same league, unless you’re talking about driving in a straight line. It’s not hand built, not unique, looks identical to other lower models, and will be worth less in two years. The SF90 is bespoke, hand built, record breaking on track, very difficult to buy, and will appreciate in value. Comparing an SF90 to a Plaid, is like comparing a Plaid to a Chevy Volt.

Wow, this Ferrari is a bargain. I mean seriously, you've got all these other hyper-car manufacturers charging several million quid for their 1,000bhp+ hybrid monsters, and then Ferrari bring out the SF90 and it's less than half a mill. Quite a bit less if you don't go crazy on the options. Still stratospheric money obviously, but significantly less stratospheric than many others.

@@defnotatroll that's called selling out. Cayennes also sell better than any other porsche. Point is, non car people love an expensive badge but don't care about cars. This car is marginally better at being a ferrari as a cayenne is at being a Porsche.

This is maybe the most well executed excuse for a sports/supercar...nothing but a shell of an 355/360/F430/458. If only the market would speak and people would stop paying more and more for less and less emotion. For the price of this SF90 I could put a down payment on an F50.

Remember how many people were scandalized by the 1700kg weight of Honda NSX. Now we've finally got Ferrari's answer - hybrid yes, 1700kg weight yes and whole lot more expensive to boot, and zero luggage space. I'll admit the Ferrari is bit faster - however don't neglect the whole lot higher price point!

Ferrari has only caught up yo what Porsche did 7 years ago with the 918 Spyder.... but yeah not a bad job. I've heard no comments on the styling yet.... It seems quite over the top in places and rather conservative in others... it seems to have lost a certain Ferrariness... The front looks like an Audi R8 and the the tail lights are straight off a corvette....

One difference, when the front motors cut out, all the power goes to the rear motor, so this car doesn't lose any power unlike the 918. Also it rides better on the road. The 918 is really uncomfortable.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.

Do you want fastest? Or most fun, involving and rewarding to drive on a typical road? As petrol gets super expensive and is phased out then the only cars the rich will want to put petrol into will be the rewarding ones to drive, the classics. This car won't become a classic of the future.

You are asking for Ferrari to remain behind in 2013? If they do, they'll be dead in the next 5 years and you'll then lament their disappearance. Let's celebrate the fact that Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche even as they move with the times, which they must, they keeping what they can of their DNA. The GMA, laudable as it is, is going to be an exception to the norm. That's just the current reality.

Ferrari sucks nowadays. The 458 was their last hoorah. 812 is the only remaining true Ferrari.

That is not an attractive car. Ferrari just has zero emotion in their cars any more, nothing at all, whereas Lamborghini just can't stop producing cars you literally dribble drool over. Kryste, even McLaren's now seem to have more emotion in them than Ferrari!
