He gets away with it though, not least because he puts in a superbly convincing performance as an angst ridden, dysfunctional teenager struggling to assert himself. On a tangentially related note the title for most unconvincing teenage character played by a much older actor in cinema surely remains with _33 year old_ Stockard Channing in _Grease_ trying to pass for 16!

I was 14 when Back to Future,The Breakfast Club,and Teen Wolf was released..15 and 16 when Pretty in Pink,Some kind of wonderful, and Adventure in Babysitting came out..It was amazing..If u were there then u know 😊

As a kid growing up for me, Ferris Bueller was the definition of the sly, charming cool guy you wanted to be growing up. Broderick delivered it so well. While Hughes wrote him perfectly. Truly understanding and encapsulating the life of a teen. And still does. There's also no greater reflection of the youthful, carefree teenager spirit than Ferris.

I watched this movie dozens of times when I was a kid, as a result Ferris Bueller's Day Off has firmly maintained its position at the top of my favorite movies of all time list. It's literally the first movie that pops into my head when I'm asked about my favorite movie.

I saw this as a kid for the first time in a drive-in back in 1986 and loved it. I watch it at least once a year. It is a classic. I saw it as a double feature along with the Ralph Macchio film Crossroads.

Indeed, this movie changed so much. In the 80s big screen movies allows us to dream of us being the characters on the screen. Not imaginary "Avengers" superheroes but teenagers who find themselves in some extraordianery situations. "Back to The Furutre", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"... Man, those were the days!

Ferris is now a dad and his son is basically Cameron. The story writes itself.

Very Breakfast Club-like with a kid overcoming the expectations from others Ferris being a teen in the eighties (the glory days where there was freedom) and with him being an icon his son (who is in the 2020s) might instead be an introvert kid not being able to live up to his parents and other’s expectation of what he should be So Ferris and his son have a journey with Ferris maybe being humbled compared to the original film where he is almost fantasy and his son learns to let loose

@@Ididnotwanttojoin It's like in Hook, where he becomes what he used to be against and forgets what it's all like to be in that place/state of mind. I think it would be a great father and son story where his dad tries to help him but fails, which ultimately does help him because he sees this guy who he's spent his life living in the shadow, being just normal and not this thing of legend. There are a million little ways you could go with it.

How in the world could John Hughes know how to impact 'England'? Hughes smashed English humour again and again. The Breakfast Club. Weird Science. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. John Hughes hit England between the eyes. He floored us, and gave us impossible freeform joy. Maybe, as an Englishman, I didn't fully understand 'America,' but I did fully understand wild, up-to-the-minute, directly-engaging humour. John Hughes remains forever young. Thank you, John, for being my crazy cool American friend. A special thank-you must also go to Mr Broderick.

As a Chicago native, senior in 1986 and resident of the area where most of it is set…the biggest problem with the film overall is that most of the things they did during their day of “hookie” would have had to be done simultaneously. The Cubs Game would have been at noon and ended around 3PM which means the only other things they could have done was go to the Art Institute, Sears Tower or The Mercantile Exchange in the morning…no lunch unless the game was omitted….and do all before 2PM…the baseball game really needed to be eliminated, to make any of it possible. The Von Steuben Day Parade also occurs in September not late in the school year…and is always on Saturday…not a school day. My classmate from 1986 actually played the girl on the payphone with Ferris…it was originally intended for Kristi Swanson who was later inserted as Simone Adamly in the economics class.

He was also a Republican so that probably meant he wasn't in the inner circle or cool club and maybe was getting iced out of the projects he wanted to do. Even though his movie track record was amazing. I mean he even wrote NL Vacation and Christmas Vacation and the first two Home Alone films which were huge blockbusters.

This is the greatest teenage coming of age movie ever. I mean I was a 15 year old teenager living in South London in the UK. I thought every American teenager lived the charmed lives of the kids in John Hughes movies and I wanted to be Ferris so bad. I know this movie word for word. Scene for scene. It was such a part of my growing up.

back in the early early 90s, it must have been 90 or 91, when we (I was a teenager living with my father) did not own a VCR, but my older brother, who was already married at that point, did and he also had a copy of Ferris Bueller and I watched the movie EVERY SINGLE TIME I visited him because I did find it so funny and so great in general. I think when we finally got our own VCR and I had my own copy of Ferris, my brothers copy was barely watchable anymore :-)

FBDO reminds me a lot of another Hughes' classic "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" --- most of the movie is a hilarious comedy but there is one dramatic scene that really hits you in the feels --- the crashed Ferrari scene and how Cameron will deal with his Dad --- and then the ending of "Planes" where Del Griffith reveals he's a homeless widower

This movie will always be a classic of Chicago like “Blues Brothers”. Although it’s hard to watch Jeffrey Jones in his role given what we know of his personal behavior. Thankfully the “teenage” cast (Mia Sara being the only one age appropriate at the time 😆) and John Hughes with his script make it enjoyable

My favorite thing about this movie is Mia Sara. She’s so beautiful, and I love her in this and Legend. It’s a shame she wasn’t in a lot more things, cuz the woman was/is absolutely stunning.

It also had Starship Troopers’ Dina Meyer (as Oracle/Barbara Gordon) and Ashley Scott (from Walking Tall… that’s the only thing I’m really familiar with that she’s in) as Huntress. I don’t know why I have this weird knowledge on the show. Maybe I did watch it once, long, long ago…

Completely true story! My ex-boyfriend back in 86 talked me into dropping acid at two in the morning. I remember we were driving around all night trying to find a prostitute to buy a pound of weed. And all I can remember is starting to come down in the matinee showing of Ferris Bueller‘s Day off. We didn’t go to bed all night we decided to go to the movies the next day. It took me 10 years and one videotape later to realize I wasn’t tripping during the after credit scene where he talks to the screen. Do you know how mine blowing that was 10 years later!

The fact that Ferris Bueller, the COOL KID, skipped school to go to the flipping ART GALLERY was one of the highlights of my youth. He instantly made it cool, like how Lotte Lenya gave instant intellectual credibility to the James Bond franchise by playing the Bond villain Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love.

True story...I'm a professional piano/singer. I got a contract playing a cruise ship in the Mediterranean and had that request. After I finished, a bunch of Dutch passengers corrected my pronunciation of that word in the song. They were quite friendly about it LOL!

You know how many times I cut school because of Ferris Bueller?? Just a hint, it was way more than 9 times. It's amazing I ever graduated 😆....John Hughes' movies were hugely impactful on my youth. Ferris Bueller, John Bender & "Farmer" Ted were heroes of mine growing up. Great film maker, under appreciated by critics.

The dancing scene is legendary, also charlie sheen cameo was hilarious, but the museum scene is one of the most underrated powerful scenes in movie comedies ever... also WTF Happened to Matthew Broderick?

How could you miss one of the most fascinating results of the production? Cindy Pickett played Ferris' mom and Lyman Ward played Ferris's dad. They married in real life after performing together in this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't last and they divorced in 1992. I remember two dates; 1986, when the movie was released, and 1992 when the "parents" divorced, because my wife and I got married in 1986 and our first child was born in 1992.

Can't believe Emilio Estevez turned this movie down this movie....It was a classic! Might have gotten him more fame and choices. I suppose he didn't want to play a nerdy, passive guy like Cameron. But Cameron really is the heart of the movie. He brings the drama and heart.

The 80s were obviously stupid, as every successful film has an interesting film color.. That's all it took and so many failed. Today they've leveled the playing field by making literally everything look like a Tom cruise Sci fi, and installed a reaction based viewership so ALL the losers can succeed equally. Crowdsourced Hollywood is so great!
