Before Marilyn Monroe became the ‘IT’ girl (of the 1950’s) it was Rita Hayworth (of the 1940’s) and before her it was Jean Harlow ( 1930’s) and before her it was Clara Bow (1920’s) Joan Crawford photographed well and was a standard of beauty but was not the level of the women listed above.

I was about to comment the same thing. Joan was known more for her sophisticated yet strong characters in movies. Attractive, but not branded as a sex symbol. Modern actresses like Julianne Moore come to mind. Far cry from Angelina Jolie or Michelle Pfeiffer.

@@RH-td7vc Joan Crawford was the most beautiful woman in the world in the decade of the 30's. And his image in the 40's with those shoulder pads, eyebrows and angry face were spectacular. And an actress will never have that image again. And none of the ones you have named reaches the talent of Crawford. None of them lasted as long on the Hollywood throne as Joan. And the Crawford movies grossed more than all of them put together. Joan is also a sexual symbol but of an empowered woman. She is not the typical girl with a lot of tits and a lot of silicone. Oh and Angelina Jolie is the reincarnation of Joan Crawford. If you like Angelina you like Joan.

According to the transcript of Monroe's session with her therapist, she and Joan Crawford have had a one-night stand and when Joan came back for more, Marilyn rejected her and said she doesn't like "doing it with a woman" that much.

@@traceylatifi9304 yes, the twins have REPEATEDLY and CONSTANTLY refuted Toxic Tina's accounts and actually sued her for slander. The twins have consistently stated that while Joan may have been a disciplinarian, she was NOT abusive or cruel. Even Joan's assistant who Toxic Tina stated was in the room when Joan allegedly strangled Tina has stated that that exchange never happened but rather tells a very different story of how Christina was intensely jealous of her mother, even when Joan had gotten her (Tina) various acting gigs; the directors of which stated Christina was grossly untalented and could not/would not take any direction. It seems despite her stating she hated her mother and the Crawford name, her only claim to fame is slagging her mother's name and legacy in a 40-plus year "Greatest Hits Tour".

Joan Crawford was a very good actress I loved some her movies but compare to Bette 's acting talents and classic movie Bette was the queen couldn't nobody top Bette. By the time Marilyn Monroe came along Joan Crawford aging middle age woman who didn't want to face the facts she wasn't no longer young anymore she was getting older I believed she was absolutely very jealous of Marilyn Monroe because youthfulness and beauty Marilyn Monroe was a very beautiful gorgeous woman with a very nice body there's no question about that.

I really don't like the journalist 🤨 trying to pin other actors against each other to get a story. What I've read, Monroe had a different saying (friendly) towards Crawford when that article came out.... distasteful I guess back women fighting against each then even now 😔

Interesting facts:- Monroe remains an icon. Crawford had her reputation thoroughly trashed by her own daughter. Hopper is a nasty footnote in history.

Hooper was a vicious venomous, vulgar, viper of a machete mouthed columnist who HAD destroyed so many careers--- Charlie Chaplin, Dorothy Danridge, Ingrid Bergman, etc. She was instrumental in getting so many actors/actresses Black Listed. I think the one person who stood up to her was Clark Gable and Elizabeth Taylor was also known to have absolutely hated her and would not even give her the time of day. I read somewhere that it was Elizabeth Taylor who advised Marylin Monroe to avoid Hopper as Taylor thought of her as being just plain evil. People thought Monroe was some dumb blonde, but she was a little bit smarter than people or even herself let on.

Joan was, at best, in the upper second tier of every Hollywood category. She did not have the sensuality of Clara Bow, Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe, nor the acting ability of Sarah Bernhard, Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis or Katherine Hepburn.

This scene is not the correct time frame/,this situation was in 1952/the quotes were made against M.M. because Marilyn Monroe was stealing the Joans spotlight for her performance in "SUDDEN FEAR!" This situation took place in the Crystal Room! This was 1952, this scene was not correct/Joan Crawford had no relations with either Pepsi or Alfred Steele yet. And Joan says that Alted just recently passed away which would be in 1959!❤❤❤❤ And yes Joan was inebriated!!!😂

Joan Crawford would've NEVER caused a drunken scene in public at a Hollywood event! She was so occupied with creating an image with her fans & colleagues, even though she was, indeed an alcoholic. I love Feud, but they made the Joan Crawford character into a whiny, insecure mess. Joan might've been all those things behind closed doors, but never in public!

EXACTLY! I mean talk about Hagsploitation! What they did to BOTH Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in this abysmal series was disgusting. Even in their separate interviews, they maintained civility concerning each other, even when one reporter mispronounced Bette's name, Joan was visibly appalled and corrected him on the spot. Even Bette who could be a venomous Bitter Pill, made it very clear that there was never the level of fighting and hatred that the press imagined there was. She stated that first off, the studio would NEVER tolerate that sort of behavior and that it would be beneath both of them, including Joan Crawford. Bette made it clear always maintained that Joan was the first person on the set, knew her lines and was professional. Bette may have hated Joan's vanity and "airs" as she put it and never forgave Joan for her Oscar stunt (which has been proven false.. neither Joan nor Bette had that much power over the academy and neither were truly in the running due to ageism and the fact the Academy was after younger actresses as evidenced by who won) but she had to praise her work ethic. She REALLY praised the late Joan Crawford after having then recently worked with Faye Dunnaway. Bette left NO ambiguity with regards to her true feelings for Dunnaway. She despised her. When reporters then tried to force comparisons between Dunnaway and Crawford, not only did Bette torch the book on which "Mommie Dearest" was based, but made it very clear that "miss crawford did not deserve that'.. and in her last few interviews made it clear that Joan Crawford was always always a professional while Dunnaway was.. NOT.. And brought the receipts as to why she thought so; Dunnaway forcing Davis and the entire crew to wait for nearly two hours in a hot arena/building while Dunnaway took her time getting ready before appearing.
