Rather her INTERPRETATION. Sachi's glass is always half empty! That's her choice. If she really LOVED her mother sooo much, she wouldn't have destroyed the chance of a better understanding as they both get older. And believe me, it's possible! ... instead of accusing the other, you try understanding them! As Shirley's friend said: pointing your finger at someone, you always point three at yourself ...

Alexandra Wimmer Let me get this straight! There are witnesses that confirm Satchie's story! Satchie herself has tried to make amends with her mother. Yet, you blame her for the downfall of this relationship! Until Satchie turned 21, Shirley was the adult and should have acted as one! This is a story of child neglect and abuse by both parents! Yet, the child is supposed to understand! Just unbelievable! Shirley got what she sewed! Satchie grew up and has tried to make amends with her parents which fell on deaf ears! Satchie has every right to call a spade a spade! People should stop telling victims to move on when they are deserving of an apology!

There's a part in "Hannah and Her Sisters" where Mia Farrow as Hannah does a voice over about her parents saying, "They loved the idea of having us, they just weren't interested in raising us." Perhaps that applies here.

How I can relate to what Shasha is saying. I had the DISCOMFORT of having met her mother in 1996. She was a "patient" at a resort which I managed. Shirley was the most mean, nasty and horrible patient we ever had. She lied (accused me of calling the National Enquirer to tell them where she was!!!) She complained about the resort "mascot" which was a beautiful grey angora cat....Hateful is what the staff called her. My heart goes out to this lovely and tragic young lady who has the MISFORTUNE of being this "Actress' daughter." I always worried about Sasha, especially after I met and witnessed her mother for being the cold, mean creature she is. And by the way...I have met Shirley's publishers and her crack pot books were written by a GHOST WRITER. God bless you Sasha and your children ...You are very much BETTER OFF without this woman in your life! TRUST ME!!!

Forty years ago I worked in a restaurant on the Strip, frequented by Hollywood luminaries, most of whom were quite lovely. I had always loved Shirley's films and had just read her then-newly released book, "Don't Fall Off the Mountain," which furthered my admiration of her. In the book Shirley talked about sitting in a circle with an African tribe and it read as if she had a true egalitarian sensibility toward humankind. And then I waited on her and two gentlemen one night: NO ONE has ever made me feel more like gum on the bottom of their shoe than Shirley. She was dismissive and rude toward me. I still think she is a fantastic actress, but it does not stretch my imagination AT ALL to believe her daughter's account of her as a mother.

I love & respect that Sachi doesn’t seem to be riddled with hate for either parent. I’ve never really had an opinion about Shirley., but now I have absolutely NO respect for Shirley whatsoever!!! And where was her uncle...Warren Beatty during that time period?? I know he was busy having his career etc etc...but wow to have such famous & successful people in her family and not be able to depend on any of them is heartbreaking!! 😔

I read the book, and Sachi Parker has so much common sense and kindness. At no point did she try to ridicule her mother. She showed a lot of insight and empathy with MacLaine, who truly seems like a full on self-absorbed nutcase. Sachi is far nicer about her than I would have been.

I had a mother just like this and she wasn't famous or rich. Just really narcissistic people and the saddest part is they never admit any fault. A near death experience won't bring an apology. I cried with this woman bc I know the pain of missing your mom when she just doesn't want her child. It's a seething type of hell. The pain causes lasting lifelong affects.

I understand why lots of these stars' kids write these types of books, it's because they are trying some way to 'get through' to their mothers once ad for all. I'm 55 and I have just about given up on trying to ever get through to my mother. She was incredibly abusive towards me and still is and refuses to change or even see the damage she has done. People can easily say get over it or move on but severe trauma and abuse leave a residue that never goes away unless a person represses it and that's never a good idea to do. Sadly, abusers rarely if ever change or acknowledge what they've done, it just doesn't happen. Abusers all seem to be just 100% ego and little else, that is why they are abusers, they are incapable of empathy or remorse.

seawaves66 It seems they are trying to cash in and make money. Her mother's photo is on the cover! If you really want to express something to your mother or father there are much better ways than writing a book for a bunch of strangers to read.

Creata Ann Why do people write novels? Memoirs? Biographies? Autobiographies? Etc. Because most people want to be heard, and share their grief, sorrow, sadness, happiness, regrets, hopes, ideas, thoughts, feelings, achievements...etc. Her book is not something out of the ordinary, it's just her memoirs and thoughts, there are many other books like that. So you're saying that people shouldn't have to write about how they feel or think just because it's inappropriate somehow? And what if a bunch of strangers want to read what other human being wants to say about themselves, their story? Well, guess what? A bunch of strangers did want to read her book because of empathy or maybe even curiosity. Her story is not unique either, generations over generations of humans would keep making the same mistakes over and over again, probably. And there will always be someone out there who feels like you do, and wants to read you, or hear you. And people need money, everyone does, you can't live without it, sadly. So why not sell your creations? Painters do it, writers do it, actors do it...you get the point. I don't see the problem in her trying to make money with that book.

seawaves66 it's that yearning we will never have when we have a mother like this, I did everything for my so called mom only to have her do horrible things to my reputation and ruin my life, they get worse as they get older, the people they feed off of for their narcissistic fuel dwindle so anyone left really gets it, I walked away from mine at 49 I'll never see her again which is healthier for me, but there will always be that weird void even though I know who she truly is.....I feel sorry for Sachi I can relate, it's something you never get over and get upset with yourself for still having "feelings" and "Hope's of maternal love, they aren't capable of love at all and that's the hard part💔

Creata Ann sadly it doesn't work that way, narcissistic parents never come around, they will always be emotionally inept....probably why she wrote it could be to have her mom validate her, they probably don't speak, youd never understand unless you were raised by someone like that, I was and I can tell you it's so hard to explain and people just don't get it, I never wish any child to have an abusive void of love type parent like this arf when you are raised by some one like this its years of self doubt from the gaslighting and emotional tempertantrums they do constantly , takes a long time to realize what you went through when you turn into an adult, you always think it was you who had the problem

You would think she would be ENLIGHTENED enough to apologize and bond with her own daughter. Facts are facts. A 2 year old on a plane alone all those hours is NEGLECT. She should be examining her life in the here and now instead of wasting all her energy on past lives. Sad she can only deal with fantasy instead of REALITY.

Oh, Sachi....I had a psychopathic father and a narcissist mother. It will NEVER be about you. It is always about them. When, at the age of 47, I finally confronted my father about his abuse, including sexual abuse, he only said "You don't want to get into a pissing contest with me, little missy". No apology. Only inferring that he knew things about me that he could tell if I dared say anything about him! I was 14 the last time I lived with him! What could he possibly say about a 14 yr old girl? My mother did say she was sorry I had not real parenting about a month before she died. That did give me some closure with her. The point is, if they acknowledge any abuse towards you, it will be because you "deserved" it. I often wonder why my parents had me. I had a brother who was the golden child. I was the scapegoat. I'm going to buy your book tonight and read it. I wonder if your uncle, Warren Beatty, has anything to do with you or acknowledges how you were treated by his sister?

I don't know where I was when this first came out, but it has totally changed my opinion of Shirley MacLaine. I used to really like her, having grown up in the 60's and always interested in human potential. I even ended up visiting a healing center in one of Shirley's books, "Out on a Limb". This led to my current profession as an energy healer. Sachi, you are a beautiful, brave and courageous person to speak with such poise of your suffering. I recognize the neglect of a narcissist parent. I hope you have surrounded yourself with people who love you as the precious soul that you are...namaste.

Shirley MacLaine should be ashamed of herself. What a beautiful young woman her daughter was. Trust me I know women like her in all walks of life oblivious to the pain they cause. Shirley get your head out of the clouds are you so bi polar and immoral as to be able to watch your daughter cry on television have to write a book to get you to apologize to her. Come on how many bloody mommie dearest are out there who don't have to owe up to wronging a innocent child. Write all,the books you want sweet heart till the diva hears you.

She's not bi-polar; she's just an evil person. Probably a sociopath or narcissist or a combination of both. It wasn't just the way she treated her child; she was always in the sack with other women's husbands, and in typical movie star fashion was rude and arrogant. If it wasn't for all her money she might have dealt with her unwanted child in a much worse way.
