@F JB no I've always been pretty clean with silicone and just used a caulk tool and a rag. So to me I never needed another technique just thought this was a good one. You can step down off your pedestal now. Also saying on the back that you can wash up with soap and water does not show that technique 🤷.

@F JB just in case my caulking tool breaks 🤣🤣🤣🤡. Common Sense tools break so if I have to use my finger I would like to spray some soapy water on it now with yeah common sense 🤣🤣

@F JB no silicone doesn't wash off with water and they don't show you that technique on here. Funny there's a bunch of other people who are in the construction business who are saying that this was three good techniques that they showed us. But yes you are right amongst the thousands of comments saying this was a good idea 🤣🤣🤣. If the silicone is already on your skin it's also extremely difficult to get off even with soap and water. I'm obviously talking to a person who works at Wendy's

The masking tape method is reasonable but leaves a very small step at the edge of the bead. The soap and water method is my preferred method. The dressing of the nozzle, into the corner using the wet and dry is something I've not seen before and is such a simple and effective idea. Really impressed with this video. As a residential painter we always cut the tip at an angle like that, and we kept a bucket of soapy water to soak the rags in we use to wipe our fingers on. It served to both do what you demonstrated and easily wipe the caulk off our fingers. It also dissolved the caulk on the rags into the water which made them endlessly reusable.

I always cut the tip flat, that work better work on limited space , and never need to looks the tip facing wrong side or not, flat or angle still got same result, its about how you put your the angle and speed, sometimes when you doing these so long, both moth make it work,sometimes got the feel adjust speed and squeeze pressure make it work, when i was younger doing these kind of job seal windows and fire wall,around 10 boxes a day, like 120 pcs everyday,start from 69 floor dwon to floor, one time i got prank, they said no lift/elevator today ,need carry few boxes walk up to 69 floor, at one points my right arm way bigger than left arm,then i change to left hand try to balance out,that make me double gunner...? i hate that job, but no complaint, i think when younger way easier pickup or learning skill, i guess kids finish school first at least, i mean too many way, you always finger it out which one work for you ,when i saw this video all the memories back ,haha...sorry for my poor english.

Can you please demonstrate how to manage caulking around a corner and also in a corner and up the wall where caulk lines cross/meet up, around tub faucets and spouts and other awkward areas. For those of us who are beginners, these areas are especially problematic partly because of our lack of speed, as the caulk is starting to skim over before we get a chance to smooth it out. Fantastic video!
@utubeape
@utubeape 2 жыл бұрын
The real Professionals cut the nozzle a bit fatter and push the silicon instead of dragging the nozzle, and use the nozzle as the smoothing tool as they go along, without having to go back along the bead. Its hard to imagine, but you have to keep a ball of an even size in the end of the nozzle

I like the sand paper trick to shape the dispenser on the tube. Until now, I thought I was the only one who knew you could do this. I had discovered this trick on my own years ago while I was working for a painting company. I was one of only 2 employees that the boss trusted to caulk. The wet surface/finger trick is great too; I usually use a rag for this. The tape trick I'm gonna have to try. 👍

These are some good tips but from somebody that uses a lot of caulking while installing Stainglass doors and windows I would have to honestly say that these are very case specific uses. For example if you’re running a bead around a window frame that’s in a brick house or if you have very long runs to make using tape or the hair soap water specifically the soap water on porous surfaces might not be the best tip to use. But on smaller applications on nonporous surfaces yeah good stuff

Everything in this video shows a bad way of doing this. Cutting the nozzle at 45 degrees means it will apply less force in pushing it inside the edge; soapy water looks nice but means the edge of the silicon won't adhere properly; masking tape will leave a slightly raised edge that, ultimately, will let water sit on it and cause mould. Look up Charles DIYte who shows all of this very well.

To avoid any deviation from "ideal" result I use 45 degree cut dispenser tip + 2 masking tapes + small plastic spoon for the first run (this forms really nice and solid silicon incurvation) + very slight run of soapy finger to finish. The end result might be reviewed by microscope :) Of course this is not for fast and effective daily routines, it's purely DIY for perfectionists :)

Don't spray soapy water directly on the joint. Instead put it _only_ on your finger. The reason is that any places where the caulk was not touch, when being spread over with the finger, the caulk will not stick to the surface. This is particularly an issue in those cases where there was the occasional gap in the caulk when laying it. You'd think that is no big deal cause you can fill the gap when you run your finger over it, but if you've filled that gap with soapy water, then the caulk will not stick to the surface inside that gap. Even if it looks good, that lack of adhesion is not considered waterproof and can not be trusted to provide any holding power. Best to try to lay a good bead that does not require using your finger at all, but if you have to use your finger, wet _only_ your finger with soapy water to prevent the caulk from sticking to it, and use shorter strokes when wiping.

Interestingly, there are plenty of other professionals' tips that say "never use wet" but to use a dry finger but wipe on cloth regularly. The reason for not using wet is that silicone hates water.
