Hello death, maybe you remember the discussion about character development in FF9 while doing the Excalibur 2 challenge. You argued there that Steiner is the character with the best character development. And you listed the stages he has to go through during his development. I can understand where you're coming from. However, to me it sounded like too quantitative an argument. It is of course true that Steiner also had to question his own worldview. Who can he trust? Who deserves his loyalty? Was he just a tool of evil? However, the entire development takes place within the framework of what people actually go through kinda often in life. Especially if they are politically active. And that's a good thing, because the game needs characters with a development that a normal person can identify with in a more human way. This is a difficult process already. However, I believe that Zidane and Vivi are learning a much more serious truth. Namely, that they were artificially created to actually be just a tool of evil. Are they just empty vessels? Do they even have a soul? What does life and death mean for such unnatural creatures? Are they still worth loving? Zidane and Vivi may have fewer stops. But I think that their development is of much more existential weight than Steiner's. What people prefer depends on what they relate the most I guess. For me though Zidane and Vivi are way ahead of Steiner because t touches me much more to feel my way into a philosophical story like this.

During the north crater FMV with the weapons being sent out it shows ruby and I think emerald? Is that same exact scene in the Japanese version? Or is it different since ruby and emerald were added to the US version?

So I don’t understand the Mr smiley upgrades, does the party still gain stats from normal leveling? And then Mr smiley upgrade is essentially a bonus?

Considering that you can beat ultimecia with nothing but attack and having all abilities locked when you finish the game on level your starting level it would need a complete rebalance. I think to fix ff8 they should remove renzokuken completely. It is too broken especially early game. Just keep the secon part of the limit, e.g. rough divide, lion heart etc. That way it is hard to get multi hit damage. They would also need to rebalance shot somehow, but this could be done by limiting stats more than anything. For the junction system they need to lock stocking too much magic depending on where you are in the game e.g. you dont get to stock more than 25 of any magic until you defeat edea the first time. You also want to remove or redo the level scaling completely.
