Welcome to the 3rd entry of my "how to" series, in this series we will be covering EVERY single job Final Fantasy 14 has to offer and I will be personally challenging myself to learn all the jobs to the highest level and provide guides for you guys during my journey. So join me on my journey and together we shall learn them all to the highest level!
The video may not be as short as my previous guides but I can assure you I nail most if not every point I could think of when playing a GNB, I've mained the tank role for 8+ years since the start of ARR and have had plenty of tanking experience so I really wanted to make sure this was RIGHT. If you have any feedback or need any help with these guides then please do leave them in the comments below and I would be happy to reply.

Love Gunbreaker so much.. I had decided to basically make it the main character in a comic I drew as a kid, which is being redesigned lol. I had even designed a nice gunblade for him. Eureka was also an influence, as the weapon has elemental properties, with an elemental revolver allowing him to switch between elemental cartridges. The earth cartridge, Geo Shot- allows him to do the elemental onslaught, "Corundum Disturbance" ^_^ The gunblade is his primary weapon, as he is a soldier, (he is kicked out though) he calls it "Violent Grace". Being that he is also a musician, the lead vocalist/guitarist of a Rekkr Metal band named "Drengr", his secondary weapon is an Infinite Frequency Manipulator, or IFM. A sonic weapon used to hone harmonic energy, for harmonic attacks. His is fashioned after a guitar he named, "Violent Resonance" lol

Feels better than any other tank to me, and I've been a PLD main since coils. To each their own though. This has been useful, turns out I've instinctively been doing the rotation correctly but I have been doing a mixed job with the opener and the 3 minute bloodfest. I was doing a mix with the ShB opener, popping No Mercy and Bloostfest back to back after the first combo hit, because I thought it was best to get those skills on CD asap, and it would always allow me to get a Burst Strike/Hypervelocity in the last 2 seconds of No Mercy. Looks like I was completely wrong though. Thank you for the guide, it was very informative. I never will step into the toxicity of The Balance Discord again, so you saved me from researching hours of already figured out information.

I only very recently realised my DPS on GNB was no where near as good as I thought it was. I really appreciate you taking the time to go over job-specific dungeon mitigation planning, feels like something that every tank guide takes for granted. In a world where wall-to-wall pulls are becoming the Duty Finder standard rather than the exception, too many tanks are mitigating poorly, elevating healer stress levels or wiping groups entirely in the worst case.
@AzuriteTV
@AzuriteTV 2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad that part helps, I really do tend to see too many tanks in duty finder when I'm healing, not properly rotating mitigation or not mitigate at all, my hope is to help those tanks understand their kit a bit better so we can get less of those situations. And of course help a lot more then just that! But every part helps I feel :)

It's NEARLY the same. You don't have doubledown, so just weave in the oGDC spells in-between the GDC spells and use bloodfest at the end of the chain to keep pumping out the burst strikes before burst window closes. Practice on dummies to get the pattern down
@SubduedRadical
@SubduedRadical 2 жыл бұрын
Neat video, man. Just curious, do you have a video kind of comparing the tanks? You talk about GNB being a good MT but WAR being a bit better in the role, and kind of compared GNB's damage and party support to the others, so I'm kind of curious if you have an overall breakdown/comparison. Not because I go for "meta" type stuff, but I kind of like knowing how all the pieces fit together, even if GNB is the only tank I use (and I main healer anyway...but it's still good to know their strengths and weakneeses!)
@AzuriteTV
@AzuriteTV 2 жыл бұрын
If I were to order MT priority, my personal take would be; WAR > GNB > PLD > DRK. My reasoning for this is: WAR just has the best self sustain (bloodwhetting, thrill, equil and storms path) while GNB has a good mix of self sustain and mitigation (Heart of Corundom, camouflage, aurora and brutal shell) putting it 2nd in MT priority. PLD and DRK is a hard one, DRK has more mitigation but PLD has more self sustain, and in a world where self sustain has a lot more value, I would personally put PLD ahead in MT priority, but I think this one is still up for debate and testing (Not many comps include DRK or PLD anyways). I like to think Tanks are similar to healers, as in there are the defined MT's WAR and GNB, and then there is the OTs, PLD and DRK (like shield healers and regen healers)... but of course some players throw this out of the window and think GNBs are incapable of being an MT, but as someone who actually mains GNB now (this video didn't age well), I personally find GNB to be a super strong and sustainable tank. Its just a pain in progression when you don't know Tank busters are coming up or have to move the boss during your Ghashing Fang combo (please make continuation 6-7yalms Squaire Enix ;w; ) I hope this write up makes sense and helped! :)

I am starting to realize that in a dungeon using all of your CDs for the trash pulls isn't a bad thing as long as your aren't using all for one pull especially with corundum being 30% for the first 4 seconds on a 25 or 30 second CD means you will always have that for a TB.
@AzuriteTV
@AzuriteTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah honestly tank busters in dungeons hit for kittens, you do want a cooldown for them, but when I'm healing myself and I have to chose between a tank that didn't mitigate trash pulls but did mitigate tank busters, or a tank that mitigated trash pulls but didn't mitigate tank busters, I would pick the latter, passive healing will usually cover the tank for the most part anyways

You'll want to hit the skill speed threshold mentioned in the video, you can use this to see how much skill speed you'll need cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/541353216307232788/923588703216107530/unknown-344.png Other then that prioritise crit above all and then opt in for either DH (if you don't plan to play WAR) or Determination. This can depend on the fight, but honestly Heart is so damn strong that you could easily use it stand alone for the tank busters. But as I said, it's fight dependent, in P3S for example the tank busters hits like a truck, so maybe you'll have to pair it with other cooldowns there but it will be something you'll have to experiment yourself. Yes. When I made this guide we were still unsure about the value of Det vs DH... Det is actually better overall but because tank gear lacks DH, DH actually surpasses Det in value for tanks

What's the reasoning behind melding DET over DH here? Melding CRIT>DH>DET gives more dps for GNB overall
@LuminNox
@LuminNox 2 жыл бұрын
DET and DH are pretty equal when it comes to DPS output with DH only being just slightly better on (most) tanks. DET melds lean more towards an omnitank build but you definitely want to meld some DH so people tend to meld DH on the weapon and since there is only one BiS for all 4 tanks right now people meld DET in armour / accessoires. This is subject to change with tomorrow's patch when there are more gear options to create a BiS.

Well, thats One little Thing that i dont like. In FF its all about dps, even the Tanks are medling crit etc over def Stats for the dmg. Imo Tanks should not focus on dmg, they should focus on dmg Reduce and mitigation. But Not in FF :D

@@Bazzstylez The problem with the "tank" stat Tenacity is that its scaling is super bad so it's not worth going for even if it offers a teeny tiny bit of extra mitigation. If SE would make it scale better than it might be a valid option but it's just not good at the moment and it never has been.
@capriccio9294
@capriccio9294 2 жыл бұрын
@@Bazzstylez A tank can last perfectly fine without adding extra cushion onto themselves with tenacity. So if they don’t need more mitigation, the obvious thing to add on for a tank is damage. The job isn’t all about DPS, but every little bit helps certainly.

Every gunbreaker I've ever healed for SOME reason or another has been the equivalent of a healing sponge - having got my gunbreaker to 90 I GENUINELY dont understand why. I'm from wow and by no means know everything, but it feels like a mentality of "using CD's on trash is a waste" which I guess got me into spite tanking LMAO. They're definitely a lot of fun and feel like a dps more then a tank. Idk, maybe its mmo experience yelling at me to use defensive's when *checks notes* you know youre gonna take a lot of damage. I'd love to try ultimates some day, but I know I have a looooooooooooooooooooooong road ahead of me to even think about that lmao. Awesome guide, helped me get into the groove and break bad habits I'd built up while leveling.

Tank tip: every tank has a three combo that restores either MP/HP. DRK has both and the other 3 has a special. WAR has buff, PLD does a DoT, GNB has a shield. DRK: *Siphon Strike;* MP | *Soul Eater;* HP PLD: *Riot Blade;* MP | *Goring Blade;* DoT WAR: *Storm’s Path;* HP | *Storm’ Eye;* 10% DMG Buff GNB: *Brutal Shell:* HP | Shield

"Here's the opener rotation you should use" Proceeds to use abilities without any discussion as to which ones they are or why they're being used in that order, including a random potion that was never discussed anywhere in the video. Great guide...
@Veishan
@Veishan 2 жыл бұрын
He went over every ability, one by one, for the first 10 minutes. Did you just skip that part? The opener is arranged in such a way that, when used correctly, everything will line up to come off cooldown in the same order, allowing you to sync No Mercy with raid buffs in organized group content and maximize damage every 60 seconds. Potion usage is only relevant in Savage progression if your group needs every point of damage to meet enrage, or for parse runs.
@noneayourbusiness5149
@noneayourbusiness5149 2 жыл бұрын
@@Veishan Yes, I watched that part, but unfortunately I don't have an eidetic memory, so I wasn't able to immediately memorize every single ability and what they do so that I could immediately recognize them by their icons. And you're the first one to say anything about the potion that he apparently believes needs to be a core part of your opener rotation.

@@noneayourbusiness5149 Assuming you played GNB from 60-90 and watched the first 10 minutes, I don't think Azurite is at fault for taking it as a given that you are familiar with your ability icons. Very few people can look at a DPS or tank opener once and replicate it perfectly from minute one. Muscle memory is developed through practice (training dummy) and application (in duty). Azurite shows it off on a training dummy and even *he* admits he flubbed his Sonic Break in there. GNB opener is pretty intense! Especially if you're coming from the lower APM tanks like WAR.

@@Veishan I've only ever played Paladin and Gunbreaker and only Paladin up to 60 when I got Gunbreaker, which was a Far better class across the board. But tanking is also an off-role for me, which is why I needed to look up a guide to try and figure out how to do it better. Hence my disappointment in a guide that seems to assume you've already mastered the class.
@Veishan
@Veishan 2 жыл бұрын
Fair. If this guide didn't do it for you, you might want to wait for WeskAlber to publish his Endwalker guide to GNB, (or watch the one he did for ShB), he does go through the actions very thoroughly and explains the rotation at the ground level from 60-80.

It's a good guide overall but as someone who is here because I like GNB and looking to improve my skill, I felt like it was weird to be hit with an outro all about how the author actually hates the class. I'm sure some people will defend it bc the author makes the disclaimer about personal preference, and sure, okay, but that doesn't mean all opinions belong in all contexts, especially if all it's doing is injecting negativity for the sake of negativity. A lot of the views on this are going to be GNB mains or people considering becoming mains because they *like* the class. Like, if you want to discuss specific drawbacks, or balance issues, or whatever, that are actually useful knowledge for the player that's different, because that's still helping people improve their skill. But I just feel like purely subjective "I just don't like this" is really off putting to encounter in a guide like this.
