First time I heard this in the MSQ, I was so confused. But still joyful and happy. Something about it just hit in such a way that made me think, "...Well, why not?" How come we can't be this upbeat? What the hell says the song needs to be dramatic and foreboding? That same feeling hit me again in the final cutscene. Watching the whole city fade to black, everyone finally passing on and leaving the empty buildings behind. It was beautiful in a horrific way. But it didn't make me sad. It was cathartic. I've lost so many people over the years, but somehow this gave me a little bit of closure. If Endwalker was about accepting the inevitability of death, Dawntrail was about being able to move on from loss. It's, quite literally, about letting everything go and starting fresh. What a fitting way to begin a brand new arc for Final Fantasy XIV.

i also think its how we deal with remembering people hell even one of my good freinds pointed out how the last zone was just one big five stages of grief i really did like this expansion it was goofy and good
@Reycied7 күн бұрын
Living Memory was one of my favorite zones to experience, both in the expansion, and in the entire game. Not only is it designed to evoke near-universal forms of nostalgia and anemoia, but that extends directly to the color palette used. The faded gold makes the whole world look like an aged, sepia-toned photograph. The music is cozy and welcoming. It's like walking in a dream you'd forgotten years ago. And then it goes black, and everyone is gone, and the music is no more. I imagine there's a thousand and one ways to interpret it all, but for me it really drives home the whole 'nostalgia is fine, but you can't live in the past' mentality of the expansion's latter parts. The sun rising over the empty buildings while Smile builds up is just...supremely indicative of how incredible the artistic teams are at telling an awe-inspiring story. If I do have one niggle, it's that I wish we engaged with Endless that weren't ready to vanish yet. Every core NPC in each of the four districts has already arrived at the 'our time is past' mentality, which is an odd choice considering Endwalker's entire message was centered around 'bad things happen, and we have to accept that suffering breeds joy'. Though, it occurs to me as I write this that the Endless are memories without souls, so that may have something to do with it. But even with that caveat, the ending was just phenomenal. I love this game, and I feel like it gets better and better every expac.

I feel the song was just used at bad places. On the Wuk Lamat coronation it was fine, but not great because it came out of nowhere at the middle, in the train at shaloani it really didn't felt it was a good moment, but at the end credits, yeah there its were it shined.

What a beautiful song to conclude the first part of the first chapter of the new era of FF XIV! 🎉 What I really like about this theme is that it makes some callbacks to Close in The Distance in the instrumental parts (especially at the beginning), it really gives me the impression that Smile is somehow the "symbolic" continuation of Close in The Distance / of the journey of the Warriors of Light, in the sense that this time, we are not, experimenting alone grief or sadness in face of despair, but hope and happiness singing together! Still, there is some underlying sadness that makes me wonder whether this song will have another meaning at the end of the patches of the Dawntrail MSQ...^^'
@MRorizs28 күн бұрын
I feel like this song would sound a lot better if Akine sang it in her natural tone. She started the song in a very high tone and I was like "why does this sound weird?". Later in the song it gets a lot better, especially with all the backing vocals, but that start was a bad first impression to me. It's different from other songs in this game in which just by hearing the first three notes I start to get a knot in my throat.
@CelerisXIVКүн бұрын
I like to interpret it as representing a singular weak individual. I find the voice as a person straining, struggling to speak their mind. The chorus that is responding to her voice are crisp and clear, giving support to that single voice to add strength. And then by the gospel part that roughness is gone, and the voice becomes a stronger individual. Taken from this perspective I think it represents Dawntrail's themes through song rather well. I personally was turned off from that voice at the beginning, but listening to it a few more times and more closely instead of the cutscenes there's quite a lot I appreciate here. There's 3 moments at roughly 2:00, 3:52, and 3:58 I hear a male voice that stands out from the rest of the chorus and it takes me out the song. I feel like it's kinda ironic because of how much the msq focused on wuk lamat. Welp that's my thoughts, sorry for boring you with this comment.
@MRorizs2Күн бұрын
@CelerisXIV nothing boring in your comment! I think your point of view is valid and it probably was the intention when they recorded this. I just think that it could be done a bit differently since we've had songs in which a voice shows weakness and it's still not straining the singer's vocal cords... one example I can think of the top of my head is the Japanese version of weigh of the world in which the singer started crying at the end and her "boku wa..." in the very end was super defeated. This song dor dt is technically great. I really like the high points of it. Just the start was a bit "what--??" For me xD

I'm honestly surprised that people hated this song. Do people really hate the song itself? Or do people still just hate Wuk Lamat and the fact that the story isn't focused around the Warrior of Light anymore and just want to blame it on the song to try to excuse themselves for their "legit" reasons to hate Wuk Lamat?

Legit Reason to hate wuk lamat ? Lmao did you sleep the enitre msq she was insufferable. And this has woke disney vibes. Not good
@GuardianofAges20236 күн бұрын
@@leighg9o , I will agree she was insufferable at the start and as well as pre dawntrail. But there was character growth as she grew more knowledgeable about the people of Tural. It was no different than seeing the same for many of the Scions. Woke Disney vibes...terrific. Another comment from the typical Donald Trump supporter. That alone was enough to prove my point.

whats the motif at @1:28 sounds so familiar
@CelerisXIVКүн бұрын
I finally figured out its "tales of loss and fire and faith" this song is a continuation of endwalker honestly but transforming that struggle into a more "happy" melody. The response of the background choir is also using that leitmotif. I have too many thoughts right now But i like it since theyre fusing endwalker and the dawntrails motifs to serve as a transition for the playerbase. Sorry for the word vomit

I honestly think people are over reacting to this song, and are disproportionately upset with it. It’s a good song. Not phenomenal, but still good for what the expansion is about. A new start for a new journey. To places unknown. To go wherever the dawn rises. I think it’s just people expecting too much from the beginning of a new saga, and are shocked by the change of tone in some of the expansion’s elements.

Honestly, Same. I liked whsre they went. It wasn't perfect, But it was a good breather while at the same time allowing for further expansion. Vibe was good, Using the Azem crystal only Once, and where it thematically mattered was good, not being the main focus and helping out someone whom directly asked for our 'Help' and not for us to do it for them was also quite nice. I liked it personally, Not sure why so many hated it.

I think my problem with this song *in the game* is that much like all of Wuk Lamat, it just feels forced or unearned because I was never brought onboard for it to begin with. It's celebrating a moment with such over the top energy when I was just kind of "Oh ok.... this feels a bit much".
