Im buying a ps5 for this game 😅

I used to be a FF series purist. "FF can ONLY be this! FF can ONLY be that!! FF14 is NOT a mainline FF game! an MMO cannot be a mainline FF game!" Then I started playing FF14 about 8 years ago....now I'm saying 1 of the very best in the series is FF14, an MMO. Long story short. I've learned to have a more open mind! So excited for FF16 and FF14 7.0.

Two of the biggest issues people had with 15 when it launched was it being an Openworld when the genre was saturated and being set in a modern day world and not a traditional fantasy one. FF16 took both complaints and avoided them and now people are complaining the other way around "too much realistic, generic fantasy world, world feels linear". Yoshida admitted beforehand that their game could not make everyone happy and never could because people have different opinion on what it should be.

That moment when Clive said "Henshin!" and proceed to turn into a giant Ultraman that breathes fire really sold the game for me. The game really makes you feel like you're playing Batman.

Yeah, you see. People will always hate a game in a series for being different from the previous ones. Funny thing is, FF is well known for changing its formula. First 3 games were your typical RPG, then in 4 they introduced action bars; then 7 said "we don't need jobs anymore"; 8 said "let's make items give stat bonuses just because"; 11 is an MMO; 12 let you move on the battlefield; 13 is... whatever 13 is; 14 is another (better) MMO; and 15 gave us action combat. FF "identity" is a good, engaging story and memorable, extremely beautiful characters; gameplay be damned. Also, hating on a product that you still don't have, and know pretty much nothing about, screams "I'm a miserable person and I want the rest of the world to be just as miserable". Here is a crazy idea: let's save our judgement for when we have the game.

I don't like action combat. I would have preferred if the series never moved on from turn-based combat. BUT. It has been moving in this direction for several games now, and XV literally was pure action combat, so why are we even having this discussion once again now with XVI? It's so weird to me how people can still beat that dead horse when pure, old-school turn-based combat hasn't been the focus of the franchise in literal DECADES... And as for the setting and characters, this is much closer to the FF1 roots than 7, 8, 10, 13 and 15. "Oh it's so dumb how everything is GoT-style dark and brutal!" Excuse me, FF2 literally started with a few kids watching their parents get slaughtered and then getting almost killed themselves, Clive's backstory isn't all that different. People are just mad for no reason 🤷‍♀️

NOOOO THIS IS LITERALLY FINAL MAY CRY!!!! 😭😭😭 Game rocks btw. Final Fantasy series will shine again after so many years. Final Fantasy in the 90's was legendary because it pushed all boundaries of that era. Great gameplay, great story, great music, great graphics and good characters. Also a lot of people dreamed and wanted Final Fantasy to become action. Which we get now... Better late than never. Turn based is what we had. We didn't choose it. Of course there will always be turn based and tactical rpg games. There are already countless to play. There are also some action ones. But the ones i managed to play all were with clunky gameplay. Just felt weird and unsatisfying.

One thing about Ff that REALLY hurts it is that it’s barely has a brand. Like if you look at DQ you expect a certain art style, turn based combat, orchestral type music etc. but FF? It doesn’t have a consistent identity. It sort of did 1-6 but these days it doesn’t, the Final fantasy branding these days just comes down to “does it have chocobo? What makes an FF game a "real" FF game. It should be up to everyone personally and if you dont like the action combat it is ok but dont say "Thats not a FF game". And to be honest I like to tease people when they say "I only like the turn based FF games" .... my usual answer to that is "Oh. So you like only 4 games in total". Because those people dont understand that the ATB system is not a turn based system as enemies can make their turns while you still select your actions (when you keep it the default settings).

If we follow the pattern of how Final Fantasy has been throughout the years, XVI is not a Final Fantasy. But if the creators want to change the definition, then we can consider XVI a Final Fantasy NOW.

I bought my PS5 for this game... last year after they announced a summer 2023 release. I haven't played anything else on it yet so uh, I'm just hype I can use my PS5 for something finally lol.

Been playing the hell out of this game. I just made this account to showcase all my no damage fights and tactics against minibosses and bosses. Got a couple of vids right now with more to upload as I progress through the game. Aiming to platinum it in a few days. It may actually end up being my game of the year.

FF16 Hard-focused on Character Action-style combat (Ala DMC and Bayonett) and removed: 1. Party Member management 2. Tactical Gameplay (Elemental Weakness, Buffs, Debuffs) 3. Classes 4. Itemization (This one is not removed but they oversimplified it so much) Now I don't know about you but every Final Fantasy have this elements at the forefront core-gameplay... That for me is what makes Final Fantasy Game.... FF7R managed to retain this elements even tho it leans more on the Action-Style combat and imho FF16 went too far with the "I will evolve and Change" mindset and lost alot of it's core elements.. The game is still a banger tho and I really like it as an action game but not as a Final Fantasy game...

They also had help from the team that produced kingdom hearts, the team from platinum games that brought you nier/ nier automata, and DMC combat team. FF 16 is looking to be a defining moment that we will look back on in gaming history as a must play. Just like how ff7 is and many others that are revered.

People can't just appreciate something for what it is. Their way of thinking is basically "I want it to be this and it's not, so it sucks." As much as I prefer the turn-based combat of the old games, I like that FF 16 is trying something different. At least the game actually works on launch which is more than can be said for 99% of games these days.

FF series always has divisive fanbase imo, this happening time and time again with everytime new mainline title release. Especially with series with a very long history such as FF, every has their own entry point, people grow with NES has their own vision of their FF, same with people that grow with 13 or 15. We all can agree on one thing that our first FF that we actually sit through and finish is the most memorable one, not the best, but never forgotten. Now the general "the best game of the series" start to shift toward later title because playerbase has start to change as well. If you're start seeing the praise about 13 or 15 don't tell they suck and not a real fan, it's just that you're getting older. I'm pretty sure many people that play FF16 grow up with Lighting, Noctis. Not Cecil or Celes. With this happen, I'm kinda looking forward to see how playerbase will react once 17 is coming, it's not gonna be anytme soon, but seeing FF16 pulling so many people in the series... Afterall history never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme. XD One thing I notice about 16 tho, in my opinion Clive is probably the most badass FF protag I see in a while, consider how he is soloing most of the battle against powerful enemies.....XD Also........say it with me...........ALL HAIL LORD SOKEN!!!

My issue with losing turn based is today most turn based games are using the old school sprite style. Don’t get me wrong though I still judge a game for what it is, not what it isn’t. I just wish they would at least try turn based every now and then on a final fantasy game

If it was a different IP it would have been fine. I mean it is already basically DMC6. This game is NOT final fantasy. I gave it the shadow of doubt and bought it, 8 hours in and im regretting every moment.

The biggest issue i have with FF16 is that the combat system feels more like devil may cry than final fantasy, In fact most(including myself) feel like the only thing its missing is the damned combo meter. The problem with Yoshi-P is his game's are copying other games, don't believe me? You said it yourself in this video, OG FF14 2.0 copied WoW, ff16 copied Devil May Cry. FF7RM is barely faithful to its original and tries to retcon 90% of its story near the end of the game. The issue most people have with FF16 is NOT that its combat system is action based, its the fact that SE is forgetting its roots. They ditched the party of people, the "spells" if you call them that are just action commands that barely reflect what "magic" is at all. Hell, the ONLY THING that's true to final fantasy are the eikons and they EVEN RUIN THAT by turning them into these overly glorified epics. These are supposed to be creatures of mythological power and this game dillutes them into "I'm just a super powerful mortal being, not some kind of god or entity." SINCE WHEN were the summons of final Fantasy anything less than godlike entities? Even going back to games like Final Fantasy 7(Original) sure you could get them as Materia which made them seem less special but the methods in which you found said materia made up for that in many cases! For example: The Bahamut Materia could only be found in the temple of the ancients which means only the cetra were capable of producing Materia of that caliber! You getting my point yet? It's not that we dislike the combat system, its that the game as a whole DOES NOT feel like a final fantasy game.

I've been playing Final Fantasy games since the late 90s. Some keep me coming back, others don't. But this game...it keeps me coming back. I'd say it's a pretty good one.

For me. FFXVI went with a purely action based combat, and there's nothing wrong with that so long as the combat evolves, and keeps you well on your toes. The problem in here however is that despite getting new abilities sprinkled within. You will be mashing the same combos over, and over without substantial deviations. Repetitive encounters, less rewarding side quests, and loot. The stats you have barely effect anything, so it's very much pseudo RPG elements. The story very much carried my interest in playing it through, but in a gameplay perspective. Was an awful drag for me, and most definitely made me sad in the face. Keep the action combat, fine, but make RPG elements that make it mean SOMETHING.

Imagine having this quality of graphics and believe that I would fun to play a turn based game. Like dude, I have fun playing turn based game on my phone but, come on, not in a fking PS5

The thing is, "FF 2" and "FF: Tactics" were also based on "Game of Thrones" (or at least it was similar to the point the fandom makes constant comparisons between the show and the two "FFs"). This game doesn't feel right. It feels like a reboot/copy paste of sorts of both games. Olivier for example is an inferior copy of Emperor Matheus. Because the Emperor was actually a fascinating character to study. With Olivier, we only got a puppet to look at until Ultima shows up. Where's the fun in that ? And the political conflict ? "Tactics" handled it better. Dycedarg for example was a sick strayegist. Clive and Joshua's mother is simply a Karen like most people pointed out. Nothing special that makes her a fantasy level villain. I might as well have watched some soap opera if all she was gonna be was a toxic housewife/mother figure.

All these fake ass Final Fantasy games like tactics and XI and XIV and that VII prequel and the TRAITOR FFVII Remake that's like action pretending to be turn based... SMH Final Fantasy is a dead franchise, and everyone knows that Dark Souls and Elden Ring are THE gold standard of what is a GOOD and even serviceable action game where you swing weapons. What!? I've been playing this, I don't know how far I am but I've been having a blast. I think my only real criticism of the game is that I miss having a party of 6 to 8 weirdos to pal around with. But I really really like Clive, he's probably one of the more interesting FF protagonists off the bat. He's an edgy boy who is still nice and cares about the people around him, I find that a refreshing character trait from a series that has a lot of edgy folk.

It's called Final Fantasy for a reason. The same people behind the other FF series and of course it's always those irrelevant people that don't know any better that will say it's not an FF game.

This game has high highs; but when those highs end; the game gets bland. Side quests so mid you forget youre playing the same. World is usually empty, no point in chocobos; no party system. I could go on

When Fallout 3 came out, I went: "oh hey, that's quite an unorthodox take on fallout." but eh - i enjoyed it the same. as for FF, well - for me it was already quite a jump from FF6 (FF3 in US) to FF7 from 2D to 3D and all that. so no - this is not the first time. i mean, we went from turn-based to real time in FFXI, didn't we ? so why is it any different now.

I love this game. But it’s not even a game. It’s a long movie with quick time events. But like, the movie is completely fucking insane. Like the pacing of the action and story beats is on meth. When this game reminds you it’s a “Final Fantasy” game by throwing you a reference or a nod to older games, it punches you in the face and lights your house on fire with it.

I think this game is gonna sell well and it is a good action game. I can answer your question on what FF is though, there is nothing vague about it. Yes, many things changed over the years, but certain things did not in the mainline titles not counting mmos until now. 1. Control over multiple characters 2. Only 15 and 16 were action, action being you swing a sword and not executing an attack command and dodge. 3. Deep character gear options 4. 100s of spells, abilities, traits, summons, and weaponskills 5. Some form of a job system to distribute among party members Basically the RPG side of things in a Final Fantasy universe. A grand adventure or great story can be had in any genre and any game. As a long time fan, I want to see the RPG side of things expand, things such as visible gear, hair or character creation, more permanent character choices, more choices in spells and skills in builds, larger worlds done right. This can be done in an action rpg for the most part. But I don't see multiple party members being controlled all the while spamming personal skills every second. XV still had some of the multi party aspect but it also had to have things shallowed quite a bit. If they can achieve the depth of older titles and do full action then I have no problem with either style for combat. I love God Of War, I love Dark Souls, I love Mortal Kombat. But I love Final Fantasy and what it brought different from those. But if pure action single player FF oust the multiple party member rpg systems cause it sells more, well I guess it is what is.

FF16 is the greatest video game story ever told, it's fucking incredible. It not winning game of the year is one of the most obvious "popular thing win" moments ever. Baldur's Gate 3 was okay at best, flawed at worst. FF16 meanwhile set a limited scope and absolutely perfected everything it did within that scope, telling the greatest video game story and having awesome gameplay to boot. It's simply unrivalled as a video game.

FF7 and 14 are my all time favorites. There have been ff games that I've skipped for one reason or another. Like I've never played 15 because it didn't appeal to me. I also really don't like what they did with FF7R. Bought a ps4 to play that game and made it about 3 hours in and never touched it again lol. Not every final fantasy game is going to be too everyone's liking. I very much want to play 16 but I'm on PC so I'll have to wait unfortunately

Eikons, Chocobos, Cid, Midievil fantasy, an orphaned male protagonist on a mission to avenge something. Seems like a Final Fantasy game to me. And for turn-based? They havent bee. Turnbased since 12.

Final Fantasy is really just chocobos instead of horses, cute moogles for some reason and spells that change the "e" for "a" and "aga". All the rest changes so many times, that you can't draw a pattern either way.

I’m not a fan of game of thrones. And definitely not a fan of the mmorpg art style. But i’ve seen a few gameplays. It looks pretty good. I’m happy for the very old and ancient ff14 fans of click based early 2000’s gamers.

it's unlike any other FF but that's why i love it, cuz it shifted the tone for this entry and i'm glad it's not some kids on an adventure or whatever, plus unlike how assassin's creed messed up with it's identity in term of gameplay from the old games to the new ones, final fantasy to begin with is aiming for a different vibe with each numbered entry, and trying to bring in new and old players to try it out, so peeps can't just say "it's not a final fantasy" since SE wants innovation and variation

a ff game to me, is the diverse tools you can go about and master.... for me, the best ff game was ff2, cause you can master any wep/ magic you wanted, the more you killed things with it, the stronger you got, it was really good.... i like games with more rpg then not.... im sure the story is great. the combat looks fun, but i like building my guy into something i want to see... but i guess this is linar story telling.... i dunno just not for me, i have starfield to look forward too tho.

Well, what makes an FF game an FF game is FF at is a fantasy RPG. This action based combat turn for serise has come pretty recently. FF was turnbased until 2013 LR FFXIII was the first non turnbased FF. Of course, FF needs some returning elements like chocobos and cactuars and such, but FF was a turnbased fantasy game for decades , and that is what makes an FF game a true FF game it can have any story or setting it wants as along as it's a turnbased fantasy game possibly with some science fiction or steam punk elements. Not crapping on 16 by the way, I love the story, and story wise, it fits right in with other FFs, but because of the combat, it feels a bit less FFish and more like something else.
