i was gonna meme but honestly ff14 gave me a social life and friends when i was struggling to get through university. I even met my current partner from being in the same FC and now we've been together for over 7 years and we're getting married soon. This game has had a massively positive impact on my life and it would be incredibly different if I never downloaded it. I still play it constantly and my favorite thing to do is help new players and usher them on their own journey.

Completely agree with the "don't trust anyone" segment. I myself am an example where I have the Trade Mentor status when I've never even touched my only leveled crafting class' level one quest (don't worry, I don't put the crown on display). As long as they play the game long enough, anyone can achieve mentor status, even if you don't comprehend basic fundamentals of the game which is why i've always seen the status as a joke.
@AltruisticWarrior8 ай бұрын
Lol true stuff. I've seen long term players on alts with sprouts that are more helpful and knowledgeable than the crown folks, far often. That and if it's a female character, especially M'qote, 99.8% of the time it's totally a dude playing irl. Have no idea why some guys will trip over themselves and hand over all their items and time with the idea their helping a woman. Heck, can't trust the motivations of the help in that case either. They're not doing it just to be kind. Even made a great friend in the game that told me he prefers to play female characters as he gets offered a lot more help.

Before I started playing FF14, my social anxiety was at it's worst. I went from someone who grew up playing MMORPGs regularly, always interacting with people online to being too afraid of even joining a guild. But this game helped me love MMORPGs again and now I'm even interacting with randos in Limsa, though as a cat girl I've learned to be wary of male aura... anyway, definitely don't be afraid of trying anything in FF14. Except replying to tells from male aura. Maybe be afraid of that. (Joking aside, this game seriously did help me with my anxiety!)

Man if I could add to this video: Don't emotionally invest yourself in the game or the people in it. Take care of your real life and take care of yourself. If you make good friends along the way of playing the game that's great, but if you go into the game to actually MAKE friends or meet women/men, focus on real life, chances of finding somebody worth your while are extremely low and people fall for that trap way too often.
@DeKitten9 ай бұрын
This is good advice. Online friends are just that, just online friends. Real Life friends are the ones who will have your back in person, face to face. It's good to balance both but know the difference and keep it casual.

Ff14 gave me flashbacks to when i played Destiny 1 at 10 yrs old, and would raid with 45 year old dads who would take a smoke break every time we wiped. Ff14 is just like that, except it's an equal 50/50 split of moms and dads.

From the story I learned that no matter how much you want to hate people, or blame them for being bad, there is always another side to the coin and its best to acknowledge that I should accept that I am not them. In order to understand and change them, I need compassion. I remember hating the villains until they revealed their backstory so often.

@EugeneSoong9 ай бұрын
You are lucky, I was doing a level 60 DR and the WHM was just casting Medica II and Stone III during trash pulls. The instance took 18 minutes and I finished all my mits by the time the first w2w ends.
@billy65bob9 ай бұрын
@@EugeneSoong I don't know if a skilled player can pull it off... But that AV run had 2 wipes before we even made it to the first boss, and then 3 wipes to the first boss before the MCH abandoned the duty and I immediately followed suit. I had tried to explain in very awkward and broken Japanese what the healer was meant to do (language barriers amirite). I then avoided queuing in DF for the next hour just to make sure I wasn't paired with him again... I was paired with him again for another run of AV. This time he was using Cure II, Medica, and Regen (albeit suboptimally), so we managed to make it through to the end this time. I was happy for him that he improved, but it's also the worst DF experience I've had to date.

Actually really surprised that you've had so many negative reactions to advice. Worst I've seen so far is people just not responding. I've had a few dungeon runs where I gave newbie tanks some advice (after asking if they wanted any), and every time they were grateful and I got to see them improve right away. :) Idk if I just got lucky, but usually giving advice is pretty rewarding. As is being friendly in general. Many a run that would have otherwise been frustrating has been made so much better by chatting. They may not always be the best players, but they can still be fun to talk to. Also have to agree that level 90s mean nothing, though. I've maxed out everything but two jobs, and I know how to play... maybe half of them? I just fed them lots and lots of Frontline exp lol.
@DeKitten9 ай бұрын
That's what I've seen too. Sometimes, if Tanks are reminded to put tank stance on, a few seconds later they'll quietly do so. I suspect they're embarrassed they forgot. Sometimes there's even a "That was my bad, first time" etc.

The help thing is so relatable. One day, in one of my usual boss fights for grinding as a dps, I ended up with one of those players... I sersiously questioned my abilities at this point. There was that tank who was basically dps-ing his life and had no idea about dps positionals. As a DRG, most of the time I had to face the rear of the boss, that tank was suppoed to keep the rear open, yes?... well, his b0tt was sticking in the corners of the arena so I tried to sneek in the corners to do my job and smashed the True North button, but couldn't easily dodge rear attacks or AoE. I kindly asked the tank to move to the other side so that I can effectively attack the boss and also he protects the rest of the party... needless to say he didn't take it well and mocked me... Talking about AoE, at some point I was targeted by stacking arrows.... nobody moved, I coudn't move by fear of one-shoting sm1, and I died (yey teamwork)👍 Oh and one last thing, I checked their plate, they were mostly lv90, which is way above my lv since I'm a trialist, great! Can someone pls tell me I'm wrong somewhere (other than giving advice), cause after that battle I was hesitant to login again (and that never happened to me before).

Advice is always taken as an attack on their playstyle. Let alone wherever you fall on the controller versus mouse and keyboard debate. There’s never a good answer which is usually why I’ll just talk about other things like lore and plot holes. Little dumb things to get people more comfortable with my opinions, then at some point maybe they heal for a second and I show them both how I personally play tank and how hard it is to play a healer when the tank refuses to use mitigations. It takes more time but it creates good players and decent friendships, if ya love the game as I do- this is the most accessible method I’ve found so far in order to keep your data center’s world full of people who enjoy the game.

I've spent hours listening and talking to a bard or spending the whole day helping people complete savage raids. some stuff is really weird in ff14, like the "dont give advice ever" stuff or the "minimum" conversation in dutys, like if ur in lower lvls ppl usually speak to each other and wait , if its 90 content ppl usually say no more than "hi" and "ggs" if even and cant even wait a few sec with pulling and stuff, like the moment i write down "hey" and press my tank stance one dps or heal already starts pulling shit (and im the tank), everyone has this kinda "i wanna get it done quick" mentality, if your doing something the first time good luck learning anything because ppl gonna rush it and carry you and you prolly gonna learn nothing at all, at least thats my recent expirience with stuff. like maybe let the noob tank at least try tanking the new boss once he has to learn it too.

I will admit, we have snuck me into groups for harder content I hadn't completed yet, but fortunately for people, I was one of the better players they would get and usually fairly fast on the uptake. It's pretty sad when a player who has not even cleared the content yet is doing better at it than people who have cleared it enough to have the mount.... Also, playing through all of my classes up to 90. I might not be as versed in all of the rest as I am my main of each role type or my bard by the end, but I actually prefer to try and do my best on all of them, so I pay attention to my abilities and would like to think by the time I get them to 90 I will at least know them quite well and be a team asset on any one of them. I sadly simply don't have the time in my life to utterly master every one of them, but I know them well enough I could actually help newer players with how they work. And honestly, when you have played through enough classes and paid attention, you start to realize that a lot of abilities do very similar/nearly the same things, just with different names.

When it comes to receiving and giving advice in FF14, I think HOW you say it goes a long way. I personally like, to throw in a little emoji, to express myself in more of a friendly manner, rather than trying to come off as a pushy or demanding. More often than not I receive a positive attitude in return. I try to treat others like how I'd want someone to tell me if I was doing something wrong. And I know for a fact that, I don't appreciate players being arrogant and obnoxious just to call out mistakes that I or someone else is making. And I witness this from time to time. Players being rude or aggressive when other's make mistakes, and when they receive a negative attitude in return, then they are like "This is what I get for trying to help!". I've come to understand that being polite is often too much effort to a lot of players however, or simply "not necessary" (Or so I've been told). Of course you will still get some players, who simply don't want to be told anything (You don't pay my sub!). But I rarely encounter these types of players. This is just my personal experience however.

Don't be afraid! Hell yeah. I used to be so anxious queuing into duties with others m, as a PLD at that. Now it's no worries.

Heres the thing - Video games are AMAZING at teaching social skills, Team work, Math, sciences (If accurate) and even physics depending on the game (Think tarkov or human fall flat both express Gravity and Prupulson physics) Ironically as a kid when our science teacher asked us how glass was made i was the only one in the class who knew and guess what....it was runescape that taught me how its made....video games teach more than people are willing to give credit.

I remember once while healing a dungeon with a tank who had cardboard for armor, a DPS who kept standing in bad was dying and they complained to me with something like "can you heal me sometime?" Like yeah if the tank was pressing their buttons and their HP bar wasn't a pogo-stick, sure. I politely explained how they are at the bottom of my priority list, and they seemed to understand; they also upped their game a bit when they realized I'm not gonna take their sass. So I guess the moral here is if you ARE going to give advice/suggestions to others, at least know what you are doing. At the same time, respond to people kindly and you may get their respect. #3 is a very good point and life lesson. Always forge ahead.

ff14 gave me self assurance, at first when i started playing i was realy scared of tanking, now i fucking love it and could do it blind in some dungeons XD and dis teached me that as long as i want something i can do it no matter what and nothing will stop me ever again from getting great >D

Do you play on a JP server? Cause I hear that people on those servers specifically don't like getting advice.
