🎹 Great clip. Maria Karnilova was divine in Fiddler on Broadway. Note: 5 years earlier she Played Tessie Toora, the stripper, in another smash musical, Gypsy! Who knew!

Precious scene, thank you so much! I was disappointed to have missed this as a kid, but I at least saw Ms. Karnilova many years later (on the same stage at Lincoln Center) when she came out of retirement to play the Queen in R&H's Cinderella to the King of her husband, the great George S. Irving.

...and I just saw that we lost him today. One of my favorite lyricists. Thank you for the pleasures, Mr. Harnick.

I never realized how funny this song is when played by two brilliant talents such as Karniova and Bernardi. And the humor is so truthful and the point of view is so insightful. We can all learn from this scene's wisdom.

Aurora, you cease to amaze me!!!! I can't thank you enough for throughout the years you post videos, that is like you know my taste!!! Fiddler on the Roof will always be my first musical ever!!! I was warping my parents recording since I was seven years old!! It forever will be my favorite show!! Saw it with all the " biggies"!!! To me, the only 2 Tevyes will be Zero Mostel and Herschel Benardi. We lost such a beautiful lyricist Sheldon Harnick!!! When he accepted my Facebook friend request I almost passed out!!!! RIP to the last genuis of Fiddler on the Roof!!! LCHAIM!!!!

RIP to an absolute great in the Broadway and West End community. I literally have just found out, after doing multiple double takes - not to mention he's a favourite lyricist of mine as well. Thank you Mr. Harnick for penning the most impactful and powerful words in several of the most iconic musicals of our generation - and aurora, thank you for posting this rare gem. 😞😢

Once again, thank you so much for this miracle footage. This was my first Fiddler cast when I saw it with my grandmother at the Imperial Theatre. It was also my grandmother's story. She left Russia as a young girl when her family was forced out. It's so easy to take this song, particularly Harnick's lyrics, for granted with repetition through the years, but when performed the way 2 perfectly cast actors inhabit it, it is absolutely funny, moving and beautiful without being corny or maudlin. Perfection.

Thanks for this. I've always wondered about her line reading of, "Do I WHAT???" from the cast album. It's a harsh and high note, and she's obviously doing it as written/directed. Having said that, the answer to Tevya's question to Golde in recent national tour was decidedly "No" at the performance I saw. That was a different experience.
