I'll always say this. Newjeans is the only group in KPop that actually feels like actual musicians and artists, more than idols. The way they experiment and still keep their identity is so impressive. Not only did this song have Acid Jazz and Fusion Jazz influences, there's also influences from an obscure genre called Shibuya-Kei that also got its roots from Bossa Nova. Truly astounding. As a musician, Newjeans can truly exist outside of KPop, plus they don't just "belt" and "rap" and then think they're talented like most KPop groups...they prove that minimalism and simplicity can also be great in musicality. I feel that sometimes other KPop groups overproduce their music and do belts after belts to hide the fact the music isn't really offering something that will stand the test of time and they're trying to hide the lack of musicality in it. Newjeans let their voices be unique and separate from the usual KPop approach, it's so ballsy and screams of leaning into artistry and not just chasing "views"...they care about their discography and their legacy this early in their careers.

i'm a 32 year old and NewJeans consistently take me back to 90's/00's when the UK garage and drum'n'bass scene was massive. I'm obsessed with everything their creative director Min Hee-Jin does and she's clearly influenced by British music. Check out F(x) - 4 Walls which Hee-Jin art directed. She worked with these 2 young British producers from Brixton. Also she's an insane graphic designer.
