As someone who loves dark/misguiding MVs, for example Red Velvet's Russian Roulette and TXT's Can't You See Me, this was an absolute joy for me. I loved the dark end so much, can't wait to see Kpop go deeper in making their MVs darker.

A subtle (or not so subtle) detail is the strap-on angel wings while dancing. A Korean girl wearing child's angel wings immediately brings to mind 'Oldboy', the ultimate dark Korean revenge thriller film. The director is telegraphing that the story's going to take a dark turn.

Personally, I'm really glad that you liked Woo Seok Shin works. His vision, tho not yet accepted in the society, shakes boundaries and makes people question what they see and think. That's unique not only for K-pop, but for the pop genre overall! When I say "think", i mean like philosophically, I know that there're groups with intricate plot in their MV's or even lore, still I find Woo Seok Shin's messages levels deeper than anybody's else. I also like their other director, who filmed Attention and Supershy, Shin Hee Won, she have done the exact opposite job pf Woo Seok Shin. She brings just vibey summery playful pictures, which are just filled with the love for life. Especially in Supershy. Supershy for me is the video that shows us a lot of life cituations, but in a way, where however bad the situation is (bus runs over cyclist, break-up of a couple, rejected proposal), live is still good! Shin Hee Won has also improved a lot since her works with SME.

I am fascinated that she's driving a LHD Austin Montego. This is a UK-made car from the late 1980s. There are none of these left on the road in the UK. I wonder where on earth they found that one.

Also in the scenes of newjeans at the gas station, the members were wearing their mics further showing that they’re just performers. Which is also why in the beginning before they hang up on Eva they say “we gotta go perform” because they literally are a Kpop group

4:54 I heard that in the car scene, they did it all in one take. Hanni explained that it was a hard scene to shoot cause they only used small bluetooth speaker to make sure they know the sound cue.. The editor might still have to put in a cut or two to make the transitions smooth, but cool shot nonetheless!

Oh, I‘m quite surprised bcs there was another interpretation I read which I also thought kinda made sense: It‘s that Ava rlly was in her car and that her boyfriend rlly was at the party. Newjeans are just Ava’s negative, jealous, intrusive thoughts of what her bf might be doing at this party. And NewJeans (her mind) keeps telling her that, making her see all these images, which in reality aren‘t (necessarily) true. Then, she continues to imagine what she would do to her bf. Whether he actually died in the end or if it just was in her mind is uncertain. But the end where Ava is literally NJs should confirm that they actually don’t exist, they’re just the voices in her mind. I don’t know if this theory makes full sense but I like it :) fun fact: I think they purposely only showed Hanni and Minji on the driver’s seat in the end bcs they’re the only ones of age, am I right?

I've watched this video a billion times, this song slaps so hard, and I DIDN'T KNOW ANY OF WHAT WAS GOING ON. Bro I literally thought it had the basics; a girl's besties call her and tell her that her boyfriend is cheating on her so she kills him. Even then the killing part was a little ambiguous to me, so I wasn't dead set on that fact. But OH MAN this stuff is NUTS thank you Jordan for breaking it all down! This is so cool!

aAccording to Shin Woo Seok, the director, ETA is about rumors. There's never a confirmation that Avas boyfriend was cheating on her, the only proof she has is Newjeans telling her whats happening and her hallucinations. Newjeans kind of just assume that the boyfriends cheating on Ava. at 6:05 you pointed out that it looks like he was saying the lyrics but he actually wasn't. i think that was the point of that scene, to make us think he really is telling the other girl that. also when Newjeans were spying, its clear they aren't close enough to hear what he's saying to the other girl so its evidence that they are kind of making stuff up. Their rumors pretty much drive Ava to hallucinations. Even her running them over while they were kissing was a hallucination because the timeline of the mv is actually messed up. The bracelet the bf gets from the other girl at 12:40 was seen at the start of the mv next to Ava's phone meaning she had already killed him and taken his bracelet then. Ava also doesn't pick up their calls later and Ive seen some people theorize that Newjeans was calling to tell her to stop but she's ignoring them because she doesn't know what to trust anymore. also when everyone was just staring at Newjeans performing with their flashlight, it shows how media distorts gossip and how people spread false info through it. we don't even see ghe other girl's shirt or anything that symbolizes she's dead so it's possible the other girl doesn't even exist and it's just Ava's mind. near the end too, we can see Ava hallucinate Newjeans helping her dump the body which might symbolize how they drove her to do that. basically newjeans are unreliable narrators in this mv. its a really interesting concept. When I first saw the MV, the first thing that I noticed was the murder theme and I was surprised my friends didn't notice it until I told them. She looked like she was actually going to let the car fall off the cliff to dispose the body and I thought, "damn." As for the parallel lesson from the real world, yeah it does make sense to me when you compare it to how people handle issues, especially netizens and people watching the K-pop industry. I see Knetz react so harshly with information about certain idols or celebrities even if the actions are just small things that should be normal as humans in a society. Think before you click is something that is very important in this day and age because when you react hastily to an information, you might do something destructive and harmful to others, just like killing the boyfriend based from cheating assumption or leaving scarring comments that could escalate into a certain idol or celebrity being scrutinized and frowned upon to the point that they reach the lowest and the worst outcome possible. People really need to step back, listen and ponder about what could actually be done without the need for violence or hasty emotional reflex, and be kind despite the harshness of the world.

1:30 Just a small correction (mostly for viewers, as I'm sure Jordan knows this): it's not the framerate but the shutter speed. Generally speaking you want to shoot with a shutter speed twice as fast as the frame rate, so for example 24FPS should be shot at 1/48th of a second. You can set a specific shutter speed on the iPhone using a proper app for shooting video (Filmic Pro, MAVIS, ProCam, etc.) but shooting with the stock Camera app (which I'm guessing the filmmakers were required to use for this) means not having direct control over shutter speed. Surprisingly, it seems that even using Cinematic mode in the Camera app does not necessarily enforce this shutter speed.

5:53 It will probably sound bratty, so sorry, but I have an iPhone 14 Pro myself. It looks at that zoom distance because they activated Action Mode. It actually films at 0.5, but shows a closer zoom, cuz all of the other image that you don’t see it’s cropped out to give the sensation of outstanding stability. Basically, it leaves out the actual blurry and bouncing part of the video by keeping the center of the frame which is completely stable. That’s why it looks at .3 when it’s actually being recorded at 0.5 :D

Motion blur was present when the lights are low. The reason why they used a fast panning as a transition at the car scene. First shot with the car has no motion blur since that scene was well lit. By default the shutter speed was set at high. 😊

The heroine of the clip "Cool with you" is Cupid, the gray-haired man Aphrodite. Aphrodite knew about his daughter's doubts and conspired with the spinners of fate (these are actually girls from New Jeans). That is why he smiled at the end of the video, because the plan was realized. They made her fall in love with this guy, and she in turn made him fall in love with her. The lyrics of the song hint that it is not about love, but about how we draw ridiculous ideals from unfamiliar people, and then are disappointed when they do not live up to them. Thus, the girl discards her divine essence due to false love, and after that Aphrodite dispels the spell on the guy. When the Get Up song begins, the heroine is already freed from the Spinners' spell and for the first time in her life is completely free from everything. She is free to decide her own destiny. This is a continuation of the morality of the "ETA" video, where the heroine killed her boyfriend and after his death her friends told her that he continued to cheat on her (a dead in the trunk).
