Hey Keith, really appreciate your videos. I am a 20yr old women new to working in mines and it's really reassuring knowing that there really are good guys in the industry that have a good head on their shoulders and are mature enough to give this advise. Its good to get advice and more reassurance around harassment in the workplace. Thank you

How’s it going mike , do you think it’d be possible to wear a mask to prevent yourself from toxins I’m also thinking of getting into the industry. Thanks

G’day mate, it’s definitely an option that’s for sure. There are masks of various designs in the industry that all mine sites have.

Hey Keith I really like your videos! Keep it up mate! I have a question, I'm a mining engineer student, I just got my first internship, and I was wondering typically do engineers always do the FIFO roster? Is there a scope to work in the cities? Do they usually do it for a 5/10 years to save up for a deposit? And then move back to the city?
@Keithy_W
@Keithy_W Жыл бұрын
G’day and thanks Sean! Much appreciated mate 👍🏻 Congrats on the internship! Definitely not always FIFO for the mining engineers - in fact quite a lot of the engineers live local to the mines. That’s not to say “none” fly in and out, but it does allow them to be close when needed. You won’t find them living and working thousands of km away from the mines though - they work on-site, therefore need to be on-site to work. Are you thinking house deposit there? If that’s the case, the answer is entirely up to you. I bought my first two houses before I was 20. If you manage your money well, anything is possible.

Hi mate, thank you for these fantastic and useful video. I am a female from Korea and I will be going to Perth on a Working holiday visa these year. Do you have any jobs you recommend for women with no experience? If I have the necessary qualifications, I would like to get them and study in Australia. My major is industrial design and I love machines and tools, but I am worried that I will be useless. I would like to work as a technician even if I go into catering or other service. I hope you have great day on your work.

G’day, it sounds like you’re ready to get into it, that’s great to hear! It’s a difficult question, as a lot of the machinery jobs that women love to gravitate towards all take a considerable time to train for. If you could get machinery experience at home prior to coming to Australia, it will speed your experience up for sure, otherwise I believe that you will find it much easier to find a job as a plant technician or as you say, catering. I hope this helps!

Gday, i wanted to ask a question, how is it dealing with the bugs at work. Are there alot of mosquitos? Cheers
@Keithy_W
@Keithy_W 11 ай бұрын
G’day mate, for the most part I don’t recall many mozzies at all where I work. Occasionally if you’re working outside the plant or workshops - say on a haul road, you will find the mosquitos can be bad, but I don’t recall seeing or being affected by them in the normal work environment.

Sorry to bust the bubble mate, but you’ll have to move over. I’ve got a make named Mike funny enough who’s a kiwi and he has also moved over to jump into the industry.

Hi,mate ,is mining engineer a good job in Australia? I just received an offer from Curtin. Some told me is hard for international students to find job in mining industry and some told me they need more workers and don’t need engineers. Can you give me some advice? Thank you 😊

G’day mate, it’s touch and go - but at the moment the entire industry is booming. Congrats of getting an offer from Curtin, that’s great! You’ve done well! My advice? Enjoy! It’ll be a learning experience to begin with, then you will find your dynamic!

The only problem with that is when your workplace sack you because your flight back to Australia gets canceled and you repeatedly fail to show up for work. We’ve had exactly that thing happen where I work, and I can tell you that’s exactly how it goes.
